Interview with Loren Avedon Sweeper :What is your favorite movie you starred in? Loren Avedon:I loved working on all of those movies...As far as watching those movies.....I don't really have a favorite...I am still out there and have yet to do my best work,I think King Of The Kickboxers and No Retreat No Surrender II(My first starring role) are definitely on top of my list.at present.....look for more to come. :) Sweeper: What was your least favorite movie you starred in? Loren Avedon:I'd have to say "Fighting Spirit"...they offered me allot of money...So I took the job...I got the script and the script was terrible...and the lead actress was some local student...argh...so I made the best of it...it's always fun to make movies...... Sweeper:You have worked with such talented martial artists such as Don "The Dragon" Wilson(Virtual Combat),Mattius Hues (No Retreat No Surrender II),Cynthia Rothrock (Tiger Claws III) And Billy Blanks (Infamous King Of The Kickboxers)How was it working with such martial artists? Loren Avedon:I loved working with all the martial artists and masters such as Billy Blanks...Cynthia Rothrock I admired and met while I was a gree belt in Tae Kwon Do and she and George Chung were doing tournament circuits...Matthius and I got our start in NRNS II...and he is one of the nicest guys I know. Don I love as well...he actually came in to read for the part of Prang but they gave it to Keith Hiribayashi...Those actors and all I have worked with are top notch...! Sweeper What goes on backstage of a low budget movie like Virtual Combat? Loren Avedon:Fun...a lot of teamwork...a lot of long hours and hard work...all good. Sweeper::What went on behind the scenes of that fight between you and Billy Blanks? Loren Avedon: A lot of pain...He outweighs me and hits like a truck...He was great to work with...after the film I would go to his school in the Valley and spar on fight night with him and his students and instructors...he is a great guy...I admire and respect him a great deal. He is great to work with... Sweeper:How tough is it get back into theatrical movies once you go straight to video. Loren Avedon:Depends on your management and who is behind you or if they think they can make a buck on you.... Van Damme came from B.movies...so have others... the whole idea is to keep working... that's the tough part. Sweeper: Have all your acting experiences been good or have their been bad ones? Loren Avedon:I like to call it fighting for quality...I never bitch...I am all about making it work and there is a general rule I follow..."When in doubt, cut it out" also you have to understand world war III could be going on behind the scenes... however the actor is the one immortalized on screen.. so no matter what...you have to get into the charicacter and be believable...even if the script and lines are hokey...the one who ends up looking bad is the one people are watching...so not matter what..it's all good... as long as no one gets hurt and everyone goes home... Sweeper:Why did you turn down "American Shaolin:King Of The Kickboxers II" ? Loren Avedon:My contract was up...they did not want to pay the fee I was asking... Sweeper: Acorrding to IMDb you haven't made a movie since 2000......And that your not working on a project right now. Are you taking it easy? Because a martial artist of your caliber should have no problem finding a job..........I mean look at your fight in King Of The Kickboxers. Loren Avedon:Thanks... now that DVD is here we are going to dust of the resume and put together some projects...I'm not done yet...just creating the market for Loren Avedon again...the market needs good action projects now. so as a matter of fact of fact I am going to the AFM tomorrow hopefully you'll see me in more stuff.......:) Sweeper(On popular demand for my kickboxing friends and my cousins) What do you think of these actors? Jean-Claude Van Damme,Michael Dudikoff,Steve James,Dolph Lundgren,Steven Seagal,Arnold Schwarzenegger,Sylvester Stallone,Mattius Hues,Cynthia Rothrock,Bolo Yeung,Jahal Merhi,Don "The Dragon" Wilson,Mark Dacascos and David Bradley. Loren Avedon:I like them all.......they are all great!!!!! Sweeper:I notice your movies get bad ratings.......Video Movie Guide gave KOTK a Turkey out of 5 saying "An embarrisment" and moviegoods gave it a Woof and it gets one star from the TV guide (TV guide ratings basicly stink because if it has a budget it gets two stars right of the bat) but VMG is usually openminded. How does this unfair criticism make you feel. |
