P.G. Wodehouse is widely regarded as a genius and one of the best writers in the 20th Century. His Jeeves books in particular have become an ingrained part of our culture, to the point that Web search engines are named after them, and modern butlers look to Jeeves as an ideal towards which they should work.
They are also brilliantly funny, while giving an excellent insight into the world of the upper classes in the period between the wars.
