Ripple Leaf Cane

The following leaf is similar to other leaf canes I've seen and made but for one exception.
This one uses a ripple blade giving it the ripple look.

You will need the following materials:
A blend, solid, bulls eye or any other round cane
A sheet of contrasting color clay - 1 the thickest size on a pasta machine(#1)
and one the middle setting(#4)
A ripple Blade and a straight blade
A thin paintbrush handle

Let's begin
I used a skinner blend of white to pink and my contrast color is black

Use your ripple blade to make the 3 cuts shown that divide the cane into 4 pieces

Place a piece of size 4 clay on the first ripple cut piece.
Use the paint brush handle to help the sheet of black go into the ripples.

Place the piece back where it was in the cane.

Repeat this step with each slice, placing each back where it was in the cane.

Now take your straight blade and cut as shown. This cut is not even between the left and right side.
Notice it is off center. This will give us the center vein.

Lay the flat side of one half on the #1 sheet of clay and cut to fit.

Now put the 2 halves back together the same way. You will see that it doesn't look like a leaf yet.

Take the right half and flip it over towards you once. Now the long edge is on the bottom and the
short edge is on the top. Now it is starting to look like a leaf.

Cover your cane now with a #1 sheet of clay and begin to reduce.

Here is the cane reduced but is still a circle. It need to be shaped like a leaf/teardrop shape.

Cut off the 2 ends to see your cane. Pinch the top of each end and then down the length to make the leaf shape.
See the ripple veins in the leaf!

Here is another one I did with pink and purple skinner blends and the vein is pearl.
Not enough contrast with the pearl but still pretty.
I also used the ripple blade for the center vein.

I love the look of the ripple blade for the outer veins.

Use your imagination and have fun creating leaves for the Spring that will soon come.
