An eye doctor's thoughts,
intended to help you make a
FULLY INFORMED

decision:

If you or anyone you  know is contemplating LASIK surgery or is now experiencing its side-effects and/or complications,
it's no accident that you are here.
You've come to the right
place to learn, open
your eyes,  and
become
aware
.

If it sounds too good to be true,
chances are, it is.
The
FDA agrees:
Look before you leap.

* Be sure to click on the letters FDA to read what it now has to say about LASIK surgery as of December, 2000!

The goals of this educational, non-profit site:

Neutralize the effects of irresponsible advertising, heavy on hype and light on revealing risks, complications, and long-term effects by FULLY informing the public.

Reduce the pain and regret created by those who appear to have forgotten The Golden Rule.

THIS SITE'S CONTENTS

An Eye Doctor's Appeal:
A candid sharing of how "a fly landed in my ointment". Please read this with a compassionate heart for those who are now suffering.  Statistics depersonalize; let us not, remembering that these are individuals with real lives, feelings, hopes and aspirations, and families. They are us.  I invite you to read, be aware and help if you are so moved.

"Be compassionate.
And take responsibility for each other."

~ Morrie Schwartz,
"tuesdays with Morrie"

THE LASIK LETTER
A letter of gratitude to a group of people who inspired the creation of this site, originally intended to help our patients become fully informed, think twice, and LOOK before leaping, and now to help the online community.

"I long to accomplish great and noble tasks,
but my chief duty is to accomplish small tasks
as if they were great and noble."

~ Helen Keller

A Grassroots Effort
How this site came to be:  People helping people, making a positive difference, one person at a time.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

 ~ Margaret Mead

  • What are my eyes worth to me?

    ?

And then ask yourself if it's worth the risk.

You owe it to yourself to ask this question before you go
under the knife (called a microkeratome, "the world's
    smallest buzz saw"
). The slicing of the cornea and
    its millions of microscopic nerves
    has lead to a growing
number of side-effects (dry eyes, compromised driving
safety, especially at night), complications (cornea
transplants),  and long-term complications (vision losses),
making this an irreversible procedure, a fact that is
downplayed by the ads.  "Newer and better" lasers do not eliminate this initial step of slicing the cornea.

  • How you can make a positive difference:

"We cannot do great things.
We can only do small things with great love."

~ Mother Teresa

Click here for Fliers:  Print out the fliers page, make partial cuts to shingle the URLs, making it easy to tear off URLs, and post them at school, work, and community bulletin board.

Click here to E-mail:  Inform your online family, friends and colleagues.  Heck, e-mail your entire address book.  Everybody knows somebody who is less than FULLY informed on LASIK.

  • Pay It Forward

The movie, "Pay It Forward" (as opposed to pay-it-back) also inspired this site.  It is about a child who has an idea on how to create a better world: if a kindness comes to you, pass it on to three more people and challenge them to do likewise.  So one becomes three. Three becomes nine. Nine becomes 81. And so on...and so on...and so on...

This is a
grassroots effort that's
worth getting involved with,
as it's about sight.
For Heaven's
Sake.

Please pass this site's URL:

on...and on... and on.
Thanks!
