Comments :

“I Am What I Am”, Pia Zadora’s second album with the London Philharmonic Orchestra presents another collection of American standards. The orchestration is very dramatic on this one, compared to “Pia & Phil”, and yet, on the other hand the approach is more personal. Take for instance the title song, the anthem to individual rights from the Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles, which Pia clearly adopted as her theme song. It’s also the first (and only) single taken from this album.  Another example is Stevie Wonder’s “For Once In My Life”. As Pia explained on the “American Songbook”-video, she dedicates this song to her daughter Kady (who was a one-year-old baby when this album was released).
Several up-tempo songs and an intensively trained voice make that this album is a lot more swinging than
Phil. It also consolidated Pia's new found niche as a performer of pop classics. Only six weeks after its release, this album had already sold more than 100.000 copies.
