Ignorance & Ethics |
In the time that I have been raising and showing rabbits, I have noticed an extreme amount of negativity. I’m ashamed to admit, the most I have witnessed has been right here in my own Country and Province. Don’t get me wrong, I have met A LOT of great friends here, and a lot of caring breeders! These are breeders who breed for the same reasons I do....for the love of the Rabbits / Hobby! For the few who have forgotten that, or have some other agenda, Keep it to yourselves! I’m sure most will agree with me, we don’t need the rumors, nor the nasty remarks, nor the lies! I’d like to think, if someone had a problem with me, or my rabbitry, they’d come and discuss it with me as a mature adult. So I don’t hear it through someone else, after the story has been revised to ones liking. For those who find it necessary to lie, whether it’s on a pedigree, or anything rabbit related.....well, it just doesn’t say much about your ethics or quality of rabbits. I am not a youth member myself, but I really can’t stand the ignorance towards youth breeders and exhibitor’s. Us “younger” breeders will eventually be the next generation of responsible rabbit breeders....if we don’t get discouraged first. I personally like to think that there will be better stock after we are gone. Some of the up and coming breeders have taken a great deal of time to educate themselves. Experience is invaluable but so is continuing education. Respect should be given to those who take the time to educate themselves, in order to produce better, healthier rabbits. I have personally experienced a lynch mob mentality against a fellow breeder. It’s hurtful and destructive. It ruins self-esteem. Check out your own backyard before slandering others. If you haven’t experienced this yourself, you're lucky. I’m sorry if you don’t agree with this article....but this is a real issue. I’d like to think I can make a difference in the mind of at least one breeder. That will make us closer to our goal. I’m big enough to congratulate those of you with beautiful rabbits, are you? |
