| "200" - a Milestone! |
| There can be little argument that "Tradition of Excellence" as it pertains to Kentucky Girls High School Soccer is defined by the South Oldham Lady Dragon Soccer program. Having won six of the last seven Kentucky State High School Championships, the Lady Dragons have set a standard that other programs can only dream of. Throughout the twelve seasons, since the spring of 1990 when South Oldham girls soccer began, many players have come and gone, and each year a new roster has left it's mark and contribution to the rich history of Lady Dragon Soccer. The one constant throughout this heritage, except for the fall of 1992 season, has been Coach Cy Tucker. With his team's shutout victory over Warren Central in the Bank One Soccer Spectacular on Friday August 23rd, Coach Tucker reached a milestone many would think improbable just two games into his 12th year of coaching girl's soccer at South Oldham. At the end of the 2001 Championship season, Coach Tucker had 199 wins as head coach of the Lady Dragons against only 39 losses & 5 ties, a winning percentage of 81.9%. In comparsion, the next closest girls high school coach is a full 94 games back with 105 wins. And, over the last seven seasons, during which his teams have captured six State Titles, his record was 165 wins vs only 10 losses and 1 tie, an incredible winning percentage of 93.7% ! Year in and year out, South Oldham's regular season schedule features many of the best teams in the state, further distinguishing the Coach's success as it has come against the best competition girl's high school soccer in Kentucky has to offer. Truly 200 wins is a great accomplishment for Coach Tucker and the South Oldham Lady Dragon program, but the manner in which this success has been achieved is no less remarkable. Coach Tucker's approach to coaching, an atmosphere of "fun & competition", is surely as much a part of his success as is practice, technique, talent, and game-time bench instruction. His ability to involve all of his players "and" their parents into the "family" that is South Oldham Girl's Soccer is a tribute to the man as well as evidenced by the strong alumni support SOHS receives from former players and their parents. There is much more to being a successful coach than the (x's and o's) of the game. As the Lady Dragon's record defines the "Tradition of Excellence" in Kentucky Girls high school soccer, so does Coach Tucker set the "Standard of Excellence" as head coach of any sport.
