SOHS over Oldham Co 2-1

Thanks to Larry Rueff for the following "Game Summary" !!

Tonight was another in a long string of District 15 finals between the South Oldham Lady Dragons and the Oldham County Lady Colonels. In a hard fought contest, the outcome was the same as it's been for many years, but not fully decided until time had expired with South Oldham winning 2-1.

While seniors Stephanie Hay and Claire Workinger controlled the midfield, sophomores Kari Clark and Kristen Young teamed up to score early in the first half with Young putting the Lady Dragons ahead 1-0 off an assist from Clark. South kept up the offensive pressure and had many more good opportunities to score with shots from Amanda Moore, Stephanie Hay and Dana Deptola that just missed their mark.

Oldham County proved a worthy opponent despite having SOHS dominate much of the play in the first half, and tied the match with a nice shot at the 25 minute mark resulting in a 1-1 tie at halftime.

Even though both district finalists advance to regionals win or lose, both teams hit the pitch in the second half determined to claim victory in this fierce cross county rivalry. The halftime tie would be broken when senior Stephanie Hay threaded a perfect pass through the OCHS defense to sophomore Stacy Silvers who "blasted" it by the OC goalkeeper before she could react. South now led 2-1!

The rest of the second period proved to be very physical and a defensive struggle for the Lady Colonels as SOHS continued to pressure offensively with Kari Clark and Amanda Moore getting good looks and a couple of nice opportunities off corner kicks by Stephanie Hay. To their credit, Oldham County did not go down easily as they managed several quality threats, but solid play by the Lady Dragon defenders and Ally Tucker in goal shut them down in the end.

It was a good "team win" for Coach Tucker's troops in which every player gave a winning effort resulting in another District 15 Championship for their school. Recognized for their play in the tournament were Stephanie Hay, Amanda Moore, Katie Moore, and Allison O'Bryan who were named to the All District Team..

Congratulations Dragons! Way to PLAY!
