Agnetha Biography
Agnetha Ase Faltskog was born on April 5, 1950 in the town of Jonkoping, Sweden where she was raised. When she was seven, she received her own piano and started taking lessons. By the time she was 14, the piano teacher felt that he had taught Agnetha all that he could. After graduating from junior secondary school at the age of 15, she decided not to continue going to school. Instead, she began working as a telephone operator in a nearby car firm. Around the same time, she became a vocalist with a dance band called 'Bernt Enghardts'. In the time between work and band practice, she still found time to write songs. One member of the group was a relative of former Swedish rock idol 'Little Gerhard'. He had since became a producer at the record company 'Cupol'. In 1967, the band put together a demo tape to send to Gerhard. He didn't like the band, what he did like was Agnetha's songs and voice. Agnetha signed with Cupol and in October of that year, her and her father traveled to Stockholm for her first professional recording session. "Jag var sa kar" or "I Was So In Love", reached number one in February 1968. Soon after, she started recording her first album which was self-titled. Throughout the year the hits continued. Agnetha then began a recording career in West Germany, where she met German songwriter and producer Dieter Zimmerman. In July of the same year, she and Dieter became engaged. The spring of 1969 saw the break up of her engagement to Dieter and the taping of the Swedish TV special 'Rakna de lyckliga stunderna'. It was there that she met her future husband and bandmate, Bjorn Ulvaeus.6 |
