| Chapter One Summary:
Kelly Anderson is trying to do a story for the 11 o'clock news and because it isn't interesting, she wants to find to make it interesting. When she goes to lick up her daughter at the mall's ice skating rink she sea’s Dr. Reggie’s daughter practicing for her lessons. Never one to miss an opportunity, Kelly thinks about interviewing Dr. Regis about the merger between the two hospitals thinking to spice up the piece. Kelly walks over to talk to Becky's, Dr. Reggie’s daughter, mother. When she asks Mrs. Reggis about Kim, Dr. Reggis, she gets told, by Mrs. Reggis, that they have been divorced for 6 months so she doesn't know where Kim is or how he's doing. Purpose: It establishes the setting, or foundation, for the starting attitudes of characters towards each other. Chapter Two Summary: Kim has been in surgery since 7:30am that morning and at around 5:30 in the evening, after 3 surgeries, he's done. After telling the residents what he wants done to finish it, Kim and Tom Bridges leave the surgery room to scrub off. They start to talk as they stretch their cramped muscles when Tom asks how Becky's doing after the divorce and they talk about how their pay has been cut. Tom says that he had to take his kids out of private school and that he and his wife aren't doing too good because they have no money and they might have to sell their house. Kim tells Tom that his house has been up for sail for five months. Afterwards Kim goes to cheek on his patients in the recovery room and is upset to find that one of them has been moved. He then goes to see the wife of his last surgery patient how the surgery went and gets lectured by her. After all of this he goes to the surgery recovery room, for doctors, and finds Kelly Anderson.Ki ends up yelling at Kelly and then leaving. Purpose: Gives the background information on the characters, including past discrepancies. Chapter Three Summary: Kim makes a few more rounds and then leaves to go pick up his daughter, Becky. Tracy is upset that he is two hours late. Kim finds out that Tracy is flying to Aspen with a guy named Carl; Tracy introduces them then leaves them to go see if Becky is ready. While they wait for Tracy and Becky, Kim and Carl start a conversation in which Carl mentions the report that Kelly did on Kim about a month ago and says that he has sympathy for doctors as well as respect. They continue talking and Carl tells Kim that he is the CEO of Food smart and that Kim should buy some more of Onion Ring's stock. Meanwhile, Becky and Tracy are arguing about Becky going to school when she has the flu. As Becky and Kim leave Becky gives Carl a hug and tells him that her mom is nervous then gives her mom a hug too. On there way to Onion Ring Becky tells her dad that her mom says Ginger, Kim's girlfriend, is the reason her parents broke up and then that she's not going to go to nationals. While trying to straiten out the confusion and try to understand shy she doesn't want to go to finals, Kim swerves to miss a kid on a skateboard and hits a parked car smashing his headlight and one of their taillights. Ginger gets mad at Kim when he calls her and tells her where they are because she wanted to go to Chez Jean. In the chaos of the kitchen in Onion Ring a patty was continually leaning on others and ended up not being cooked all the way. Purpose: Establishes the relationship between father and daughter and former husband and wife, as well as, how Becky gets sick. Chapter Four Summary: Kim finds out that Becky is feeling ill when he goes to wake her up for her skating practice. He acts the doctor and conceders that it is probably all the junk food she ate the night before. He convinces her to get up and get ready to go. While he waits for her he calls Ginger and tells her what happened. At the rink Kim runs into Kelly Anderson once again, she is looking to get another story out of him. When Ginger comes over Kelly tells her that she wants to interview her, most likely about her relationship with Kim. Kim tells Ginger that he doesn't want her talking to Kelly and that she's liked a shark. In the middle of the argument Becky comes over and hints about her not being able to do her lesson because she's gunner puke. Purpose: Shows the relationship between Kim and Ginger; but most importantly, proves that Becky has more than just a stomachache. |
