Rat was one of the twelve of us left in 1st platoon on the night of August 29th. When they did the medavacs that night we were so short that we only had two men to a position. Rat and I were together. We had never been close, not that we disliked each other. We just fell into that great bulk of people that had nothing in common. I remember later thinking how we all but held hands all night long, we were so glad to be ok. It really was a hard time.
