The bab's "prophecy" of bahaullah
The bab at first claimed to be the gate to the hidden Imam Mahdi who is believed by the twelver Shias to be in occultation. Before proceeding it should be born in mind that the twelver shia belief is not accepted by orthodox Islam who constitute nearly 90% of muslims. The very foundation of bahai claims are based on 19th century messianic twelver shiaism and not even rooted in orthodox Islamic teaching. Regardless, the bab then advanced the claim that he was the Imam Mahdi and then proceeded from there to claim that he was the "nuqta" or the point of convergence of all the prophecies of all religions with regards to the coming of a latter day saviour as well as euphemistically claiming to divinity by being a "manifestation of God" and also claimed that he was ushering in the mighty Day of Judgment mentioned in the Qur'an.. Several important points need to be addressed here.
First of all, the above claims were almost identical claims to what bahaullah took for himself. The bahais also claim that bahaullah is the "Imam Mahdi of Islam, the return of Christ of Christianity, the Lord of Hosts of Judaism, the next avatar of krishna, etc". Bahais conveniently ignore the fact that the bab already had taken these position by claiming to be the fulfilment of the prophecies of the religions previous to him and by being the "nuqta" or "point" referring to a point of convergence of all previous religions.
Secondly, there has never been any sect of Islam whether shia or sunni that said that the Imam Mahdi will be a "manifestation of God" or that he will bring a new book or a new religion. In fact universally all the ten's upon ten's of prophecies of the Imam Mahdi say that he will come and establish Islam and will be a just muslim ruler. In fact the saying of the prophet Muhammad PBUH above that says that there will be no prophet in between himself and the second coming of Jesus Christ also attests to this fact. Now, if bahais wish to claim that bahaullah was the return of Christ then how do they explain the fact that the bab came not to establish Islam but came to destroy it and brought a new religious teaching?
There is an article in this site that is called "Did bab prophecy bahaullah?" as well as another called "a Christian's response to bahai claims" that I would also highly recommend you to read. In there we see that the bab in fact didn't view his dispensation as something that would end in 19 years but one that was to last for 1500 years or so. Thus bahaullah's claims don't even stand from a babi point of view.
