THE EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Breakthroughs in every field of learning are being
encountered. Education and training are experiencing new
challenges in this rapidly changing world. How will we be able to
release the full potential of our children in this present day
and age with its many demands?

This brochure has been prepared for your information and to introduce the Abundant Life Christian School.

WHAT IS THE ABUNDANT LIFE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL and WHERE IS IT?

Situated at the Abundant Life Centre in Durban Street, King
William's Town, the school is an outflow of the ministry of the
Abundant Life Christian Church - a local autonomous church.

WHAT SYSTEM OF EDUCATION IS BEING USED and WHY IS IT PREFERRED?

The Abundant Life School uses the ACE system (Accelerated Christian Education).

It is ACCELERATED because it incorporates all the principles of Controlled Progress Motivated Learning.

• The individual giftings and abilities of the child are recognised.
• Instructional goals are set.
• Learning takes place with feedback and controls.
• Rewards create self-motivation.

It is CHRISTIAN because it embraces all the fundamental truths of Biblical Christianity in every subject and activity.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES?

The objectives are to meet the needs of the child's entire existence.

• SPIRITUAL - To introduce the child into a dynamic relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
• SOCIAL - To build healthy and balanced attitudes in the child - relating to every relationship the child will encounter as a social being.
• ACADEMIC - Mastery of instructional material is vital. The child can only achieve academic excellence by the mastery of concepts in all subjects learned.
• PHYSICAL - Physical training and sport are necessary in the total development of the child.

PARENTS ARE INVOLVED

The parents are the PRIME EDUCATORS of their children. The entire family is involved in the education of children.

Parents thus commit themselves to:

1. Understand and become involved in their child's education.
2. Allow the school to give Biblical counsel influencing their home and family life where it is considered necessary for the healthy development in child development.
3. Agree to the school's standard disciplinary procedures, balanced discipline being necessary in child development.
4. Uphold the Biblical values the school is imparting to their child, so that no conflict between school and home values are evident to the child.
5. Reciprocate mutual loyalty between themselves and the school.
6. Promptly pay the monthly account.

GOD ORDAINED THREE INSTITUTIONS - HOME, CHURCH and GOVERNMENT

He gave life training responsibilities to the Home (Deut 6:4-12) and to the Church (Matt 28:18-20)

The Christian School is therefore not a separate institution, but an extension of the home and integral with the church.

THE FIVE LAWS OF LEARNING

1. The pupil must be on a LEVEL of curriculum where he can perform
2. The pupil must set reasonable GOALS which he can achieve in a prescribed period of time
3. The pupil must be CONTROLLED and MOTIVATED to assimilate, use or experience the material
4. The pupil's learning must be REWARDED
5. The pupil's learning must be MEASUABLE

THE BASIC SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES

1. LEVEL acknowledges that all are different: "To whom much is given, from him much will be required."
2. GOALS reflect good judgement: "Sitting down to count the cost."
3. CONTROL acknowledges the necessity for discipline, guidance and responsible leadership: "Train up a child in the way he should go ... ."
4. MOTIVATION is that inner desire prompted by the Spirit-filled supervisor: "Reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
5. MEASURABLE results and REWARD relate to accountability: "We must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ that each one may receive ... ."
