Administrative experience:

Chair, Department of Music, Westminster College, 1987-1994. Responsible for: Faculty recruitment, student recruitment scholarships, budgets, course scheduling, curriculum development, development of music library and electronic resources center, evaluation of faculty, evaluation of students including sophomore hearings, junior and senior recitals. Coordinator of Programming and recitals. During seven years as Chair I doubled the size of the student body and increased offerings to non-majors from three courses per year to ten courses per year. Enrollment by non-majors in private and class lessons increased in a similar fashion. Part-time studio faculty also increased from six to seventeen. I successfully took the department through the NASM reaccreditation process resulting in the renewal of our membership. The department became a Sustaining Member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Under my leadership the department became computerized and an electronic music studio was established. New performing organizations -- Marching Band, Opera Workshop, Gospel Choir, Show Choir and Piano Ensemble joined the already established concert band, choirs, orchestra, and handbell choir. Adult programs were instituted and the pre-college division was strengthened. The establishment and teaching of a twice weekly departmental master class was one of my most important innovations as Chair. This class functions not only as a traditional master class but also serves as a seminar discussing the physical and psychological aspects of performance in the real world of the 1990's. The students are given the opportunity to comment about the performers thus gaining practical experience in the teaching process. As Chair of the Liberal Arts Forum Committee for six years, I developed the philosophy and the practical application of the Performing Arts Program at Westminster together with the Assistant Dean. This resulted in a large scale Celebrity Series, a Chamber Music Series and a Foreign Film Series. Subsequently, these offerings became so popular that a full-time Director of Performing Arts was hired by the college. I was appointed by the President of the college to the President's Advisory Committee for three one-year terms and have been an elected member of many faculty committees.
