1. The first family comes from AMBLANS in Haute-Saone in France. As far as I could determine, ALL of the Chenevey's in the United States descend from this family. The earlist date is about 1650.
2. A second family is found in the village of PFAFFANS, about 30 k west of Amblans. I am just beginning my research on this branch of the family and have only found records from the late 17th and the 18th centuries.
3. The third family comes from VILLERS sous CHALAMONT in the Department of Doubs. Members of this family date from ABT 1645 to the present. The majority of these people use the spelling Chenevez.
4. The fourth family comes from the village of SAINT-PIERRE de CHARTREEUSE in the Department of Isère. Members of this family may be found from just before the French Revolution until the present. The earliest member of this family is Pierre Chenevey and his descendents all use the Chenevey spelling of the name. This family has spresd from France into South America and northern Europe.
It is my hope that I, with the aide of the many French and Swiss Genealogists with whome I have been working, will be able to tie these four families into a single one. If any of you have any family information not found on these pages and would like to share it with me, please send me an email. I am constantly adding to this site so please visit often and sign the guest book.
