| Well, we've reached the close of yet another Pool Wiffle Ball season and I think it's safe to say it was the best year yet. We were introduced to such phenomenons as the Jachles shift, the Mitch Gruber "leaving on a jet plane" mammoth blasts, Walter Pubenhagen, Pink Floyd; the new bat which was quickly banned, and the legendary "ICHIRO!!" call. The season kicked off with a blast at the opening day-night doubleheader and the Cinco de Mayo game which is always a favorite with our gigantic Latin fan base. The numerous web gems, bench clearing brawls and the epic home run race kept the season going strong throughout the entire summer. The first annual Memorial Day tournament was a huge success. The unstoppable team of Gruber, Dobbin and Collins, dubbed the Fightin' Irishmen, dominated the tournament with Stevie Collins, having an uncharacteristic good game taking home MVP honors. In a year where we saw almost every previous record go down I think the most impressive number is Andy Osburn's explosive .115 batting average. The long winter without wiffle ball will be a tough one, but if you ever have a severe craving just think of Andy Osburn in a swim suit and you'll never want to play again. |
