Brandon Wolk UB 101 Research Paper Cunnilingus Cunnilingus is an intimate sexual act in which the mouth/tongue is used to stimulate the female genitals. This typically includes kissing, licking, and/or sucking the labia and vagina but mainly the clitoris. The tongue should not be stuck into the vagina as if it were a penis. The act is popular because unlike an erect penis during intercourse, the tongue makes direct contact with the clitoris. The purpose of the act is to stimulate and arouse the female partner as foreplay; however, the act can also be used as an alternative to sexual intercourse. Some women do not orgasm during sexual intercourse. This is often times due to the lack of direct stimulation on the clitoris. Cunnilingus is found to be an enjoyable sexual act that satisfies a female’s sexual needs/desires. Cunnilingus is not practiced by everyone, but more people than you think have received and/or performed the act. The act in the past had often been look down upon because it was thought to be unhealthy, perverse, and “dirty.” The assumption that the act is “dirty” may be true in the sense of moral beliefs but not in the sense of medical beliefs. When performed between two disease free partners who keep good hygiene, cunnilingus is a safe and clean sexual act. If you think the act is dirty, than you must think kissing is too since the human mouth contains more bacteria than the human vagina. Before June 22, 2000 there was a "consensual sodomy" law that made it illegal for two adults to freely engage in sexual activity other than penis-to-vagina intercourse. In eighteen states consensual oral and anal sex is still a crime. In New York consensual sodomy was a Class B misdemeanor, and offenders could receive up to three years in jail and a fine of up to $500. There are many pros and cons concerning cunnilingus. It is impossible to get someone pregnant through cunnilingus. This is a major reason why the act is so popular among young couples. Teenagers and people in their twenties who are worried about having a kid but want to express their love with sexual acts, often participate in acts of fellatio and/or cunnilingus. Although sexually transmitted diseases such a herpes and genital warts can be passed through cunnilingus, it is not a problem when both partners are aware of each other’s health. A study done by Redbook magazine shows that 62% of the women who had experienced cunnilingus found it very enjoyable and 28% found it somewhat enjoyable. The Hite Report concluded that orgasms experienced from manual or oral stimulation were much more intense and felt better in the sense that the orgasm was stronger and more localized. The fact that sexually transmitted diseases such a herpes and genital warts can be passed through cunnilingus is a problem for people who randomly engage in cunnilingus with multiple or unknown partners. Cunnilingus is an act of intimacy and can be dangerous when practiced with unknown partners. The act of cunnilingus is often thought of as a gross, kinky act that is only done in pornographic films and only talked about in dirty jokes. Lewd tales about the vagina having a foul odor and being a gross part of the body, make people think the act is horrible. Cunnilingus is a natural sexual act that responsible adults should engage in. The act goes further than physical pleasure. The idea that a partner engages in an act in which he or she receives little sexual pleasure shows what type of feelings are in the relationship. Although two partners can engage in oral sex simultaneously (This is often referred to as “69”) it is not as common. The partner receiving the cunnilingus often times feels more loved and this often times strengthens a relationship between two people. “Cunnilingus.” <http://www.wylde.com/cunnilingus.html> Hite, Shere. There was a whole section dedicated to sexuality and was quite helpful. I found the section by coincidence when I was studying. There was a big sign on the shelf that said sexuality which was nice because I did not have search through the catalog. The internet sources I found by using Yahoo.com and entering “cunnilingus” and “cunnilingus history”. |
