MAKOSKI LEADS BROOKLAWN TO CONVINCING GAME ONE VICTORY OVER MEADOWBROOK Second-place Brooklawn jumped out to a first inning 10 run lead and never looked back Monday night in Game 1 of the Pool Wiffle Ball World Series, after nearly a month break since the regular season ended. Anders Makoski led the way with 3 first inning home runs and 9 for the game. Meadowbrook would get as close as four runs after pitcher Joe Mauerhaungs retired 7 straight batters, including retiring the side in order in the third and fourth innings. Unfortunately for Jachles and the boys, they never could get the bats going, as they went 1-2-3 in the fourth and fifth after solid innings by Mauerhaungs. Brooklawn put up 10 runs in the 6th and 7th, to solidify their lead, as they went into the bottom of the 7th up 25-11. Meadowbrook managed 6 runs, after a small barrage of bunting, but MVP favorite Michael Jachles could never find his touch as he made all three outs in the 7th and was retired seven straight times to end the game. Greg Feltes played stellar defense for Meadowbrook, making remarkable play after remarkable play. The story of the game was Anders Makoski, who not only led all players with 12 RBIs, but also pitched a complete game gem, giving up just 17 runs and striking out three. Game two will be played Saturday at 1:00. BOX SCORE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H Brooklawn 10 3 0 0 2 6 4 25 26 Meadowbrook 5 0 4 0 0 2 6 17 17 Brooklawn Name AB H R RBI HR AVG P. Bertucci 16 10 9 6 6 .625 A. BROOKLAWN RIDES 12 RUN 4TH INNING TO 38-24 WIN, 2-0 SERIES LEAD For six innings, Meadowbrook and Brooklawn played nearly identical wiffle ball. But a 4th inning that saw Brooklawn put up 12 runs, including 8 straight home runs at one point, and Meadowbrook score just 1, proved to be the big difference in Saturday's 38-24 Brooklawn win. This leaves regular season winner Meadowbrook in a 2-0 hole, going into 3 straight games on Brooklawn's home turf. The game started out a slug fest, as Brooklawn led 19-18 after just two innings. All six players were grooving, especially Michael Jachles, who went cold to end game 1, but started game 2 on an eight for eight hot streak. The third inning saw both teams go down without a run, the second time this unusual occurrence has happened in this World Series. Brooklawn bounced back big time in the fourth, putting up a fat 12 spot, and after Meadowbrook failed to answer the game was all but over. Anders Makoski cruised to his second complete game victory, allowing just 6 runs in the last 5 innings, and striking out two batters. Makoski also led all players in home runs and RBIs for the second straight game, with 12 and 13 respectively. The Meats were fueled early on by the return to form of Brandon Rothschild, who belted 11 home runs in his first 13 at bats, but finished the game with 7 straight outs. Captain Pete Bertucci also hit well, collecting 11 home runs and 4 singles. Michael Jachles led the Matzo with 8 home runs and 10 RBIs, but once again cooled off to end the game, finishing on a 2 for 7 cold streak. The series heads to Brooklawn for Game 3, Sunday at 1:05, with the national anthem being performed by local favorite Andy Osburn.
