JAMIE KENNEDY EXPERIMENT REBOUNDS TO WIN GAME 2, 27-16

Thanks to the resurgence of pitcher Pete Bertucci, and the streaky hitting of Sean Dobbin and Michael Jachles, the Jamie Kennedy Experiment bounced back to tie the series 1-1.  After four innings Mitch was again pitching a solid game as Gruber's Goobers held a 12-8 lead.  But in the 5th inning JKX came alive in a big way scoring 11 runs and taking a commanding 19-12 lead. Bertucci held off the Goobers' bats in the bottom of the 5th with a 1-2-3 inning and JKX cruised to a 27-16 victory.  Dobbin led the game with 9 home runs and 11 RBIs and Michael Jachles added 8 home runs.  On the defensive side, Paul took a home run away from Dobbin and Pete turned a Gruber line drive off his face into a double play.  Game 2 set a World Series attendance record as 3 fans showed up for the big game.

GOOBERS TAKE 1st GAME 21-15

Coming off of Mitch's 31-24 rock paper scissors romp over Dobbin the momentum was clearly with Gruber's Goobers.  Spirits were high as they took to the pool for the first inning.  Mitch pitched a 1-2-3 top of the first and each team member hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the first.  Gruber continued to mystify the Jamie Kennedy Experiment (previously Team Discovery Channel) for 3 more innings.  After four innings the Goobers were up 12-0 and Gruber had not surrendered a hit.  In the top of the fifth Dobbin broke the perfect game bid with a solo shot and JKX went on to score 6 runs in the fifth.  However, the Goobers would not let the momentum shift as they put up another six runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Though JKX finished strong with 7 runs in the 7th inning their comeback bid fell short and Gruber's Goobers took game 1 by a score of 21-15.  Paul Holt led the game with 8 home runs and Mitch and Jacob contributed strong efforts with 7 and 6 RBIs respectively.  On the defensive side Jachles delivered a strong performance as he made numerous good grabs at first.  Paul also robbed Dobbin of a home run and the Goobers turned a smooth 1-8-3 double play.  Scorekeeper/umpire Andy Osburn called a fair game and helped break up the mini-scuffle between rival pitchers Gruber and Bertucci.

JACHLES, JKX STEAL GAME 3 ON WALK OFF HR; LEAD SERIES 2-1

A game that started out as a pitchers' duel ended wildly as the Jamie Kennedy Experiment won 20-18 on a 3-run walk-off home run by Michael Jachles.  The game started off with a shock as JKX started veteran Michael "shifty" Jachles instead of Cy Young favorite and Game 2 winner Pete Bertucci.  The move was a costly one for JKX as Jacob and Paul hit 2 home runs each in the first inning.  However, Jachles did retire his arch-nemesis Mitch Gruber 3 times.  In the bottom of the 1st JKX rallied back with 3 runs.  In the top of the 2nd JKX pulled Jachles in favor of Pete and the Goobers added 3 runs to solidify their lead.  Pete followed with 3 brilliant innings of scoreless ball that included working out of a tough jam.  After five innings both pitchers seemed to be on top of their games as the score was locked at 7 all.  In the top of the fifth Gruber's Goobers were desperate to break out of their rut.  Encouraged by Mitch's demand for run support, the Goobers scored 11 runs in the top of the fifth including 4 solo home runs by Paul Holt.  At that point Gruber was cruising and the Goobers seemed poised to take Game 3.  After their big inning, Jacob Kriegler had to leave.  He had to "pick up his mom" at the airport (Her flight conveniently arrived at 4:20).  This would prove to be a turning point in the game.  The Jamie Kennedy Experiment doubled their run total in the bottom of the 6th and it was 18-14.  In the top of the 7th, relief ace Sean Dobbin came in and got Gruber and Holt out and Jacob's spot was an automatic out.  JKX still needed 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th just to tie.  After giving up 2 home runs Mitch could go no further.  He stayed in to get Dobbin out, but then left the game with an 18-16 lead.  Paul came in to attempt the tough save.  Pete hit a home run and Jachles grounded out.  The score was 18-17 with 2 outs and slumping Sean Dobbin up.  He hit an ambiguous pop fly into the center of the pool and inexperienced robber Mitch Gruber did not know what to do.  It dropped for a single.  Bertucci was beaned and that left it all up to Jachles.  After taking at least 15 pitches, he nullified the pressure with a 3-run bomb over the house to win it.  The game set a new record for attendence as 4 fans came out to watch the exciting game.  Game 4 will be held Monday at 3:00 and we hope to see a large turnout.

GOOBERS COME FROM BEHIND TO WIN GAME 4, SERIES TIED AT 2

Once again the game started out slowly as both teams failed to score in the first inning.  The Goobers put up 3 runs in the top of the second and the Jamie Kennedy Experiment added 4 in the bottom half.  In the bottom of the third, JKX broke out in a big way.  They put up 12 runs in the inning making it 16-3.  Facing a 13 run deficit the Goobers refused to quit.  They scored 9 runs in the 4th to make the score 16-12 and then in the bottom of the fourth Mitch set down JKX in order.  The Goobers added 8 more runs in the fifth inning as all 3 players found their stroke at the same time.  After taking the lead 20-16 the Goobers never looked back.  They added 11 runs in the last two innings and Mitch baffled JKX the rest of the way.  Mitch got Jachles to hit right into the Jachles shift to end the game and the Goobers won by the score of 31-20, the most convincing victory of the series.  Paul and Mitch each jacked 10 home runs and had 12 RBI each.  Jacob "the X factor" Kriegler also had a solid game hitting 7 bombs into "Cubby's Cove."  Aside from the 3rd inning, Mitch was dominant on the mound giving up only 8 runs in the other 6 innings and also adding strikeout.  The Goobers played solid defense with Jacob making many good plays at catcher and the Jachles shift working marvels. Pete Bertucci tried his hardest to make up for his poor pitching by hitting 9 home runs with 11 RBIs to lead JKX, but the Goobers were too strong.  Another attendance record was set as 5 fans showed up for the game.  Game 5 will be held Wednesday at 4 PM and will feature Andy Osburn singing the national anthem.

BIG 7TH INNING GIVES GOOBERS GAME 5 WIN, SERIES LEAD

After an emotional performance of the national anthem by Andy Osburn, no one's thoughts were on wiffle ball.  All that changed when the first pitch was thrown and from that point on tensions were high.  Mitch kicked the game off with a blast, but workhorse Pete Bertucci got out of the inning otherwise unscathed.  Jachles also hit a solo dinger in the bottom of the first and after 1 inning, the game was tied at 1.  The Jamie Kennedy Experience turned things up a notch in the 2nd inning scoring 7 runs including a Sean Dobbin 3-run blast.  A controversial call also gave Jachles a single in the inning and Mitch would not let it go.  Because he complained about the "phantom hit" for the rest of the game, the whole JKX squad now officially hates Mitch.  JKX contolled the game for the next 4 innings and going into the 7th they had a 19-13 lead.  The Goobers had struggled the whole game off Pete and were only still in the game because of a strong performance by Mitch.  Paul led off the inning with a solo shot and Pete was then pulled in favor of relief ace Sean Dobbin.  The Goobers hit 3 consecutive home runs off of Dobbin to make it 19-17 and then Kriegler made the first out of the inning.  Mitch then laid down a beautiful bunt and Paul hit a clutch game-tying 2-run shot.  Mitch hit a 2-run go-ahead home run to make it 21-19 and the Goobers scored 3 more capping off an 11 run inning that made the score 24-19.  Jachles led off the bottom of the 7th and hit right into the Jachles shift. Dobbin then homered and Pete grounded out.  Game 3 clutch performer Michael Jachles hit a 2-out homer and Dobbin added another to make it 24-22 with 2 outs.  Slumping hitter Pete Bertucci ended the game with another routine ground ball.  Mitch led the game with 11 RBIs and 9 home runs.  The Goobers now have a 3-2 series lead going to their home field.

BERTUCCI, JKX DOMINATE GAME 6; SERIES TIED AT 3

The start of Game 6 was delayed about an hour because Jachles was mysteriously late.  Outraged by this, the Goobers sent intimidating fireballer Jacob Kriegler to the mound in the 1st.  Jacob beaned Jachles setting an uneasy tone that would last the entire game.  The Jamie Kennedy Experiment scored 2 runs off Kriegler in the first and then Pete shut down the Goobers in the bottom of the first.  Pete's mastery of the Goobers continued for the whole game as he allowed just 9 runs in 7 innings.  The move of Jachles from first base to catcher also helped JKX as they only gave up two non-home run hits.  Pete held Mitch to just 1 home run and Paul to 3.  Fed up with his poor performance at the plate, Paul took to the mound in the top of the 6th with his team losing 12-3.  He pulled a classic John Holt "beaning rampage" as he beaned 3 straight batters to load the bases.  Jachles hit into an RBI fielder's choice but after another beaning, Pete delivered a grand slam that all but sealed the game for JKX.  Paul finished out the game and had 8 beanings.  The real story however was Pete's masterful performance on the hill that caused the Goobers much frustration.  Another heartwarming story of game 6 was Dobbin overcoming a near-fatal finger injury and delivering a solid 5 home run performance.  Game 7 will be held next monday, September 23.

JKX RIDES MOMENTUM TO CONVINCING GAME 7 VICTORY; BERTUCCI NAMED SERIES MVP

Before a sellout crowd, the Jamie Kennedy Experiment jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  In the top of the first, JKX took an early 2-0 lead.  Mitch Gruber started off the bottom of the inning with a solo shot and Paul Holt followed with a blast high into the tree that came back into the yard for a foul ball.  After this lucky break, Pete retired the side in order.  In the top of the second JKX busted out, scoring 7 runs and taking a commanding 9-1 lead.  Cy Young favorite Pete Bertucci continued his success against the Goobers giving up just 3 runs through the first four innings.  In the top of the fifth JKX was leading 21-3 and Goobers star pitcher Mitch Gruber was pulled after being thoroughly rocked.  Jacob Kriegler came in in relief and got two key outs.  In the bottom of the fifth the Goobers bats started to heat up as Paul hit two homers and Jacob and Mitch each hit one.  However, this was there only sign of life offensively.  JKX added 5 more runs in the 7th inning and Pete pitched a scoreless bottom of the 7th to give JKX a 26-8 victory.  Flawless defense was played by JKX as they surrendered not one single.  Pete led the game with 8 home runs and 10 RBIs.  Paul led the Goobers with 5 home runs and also made an unassisted web gem double play.  The game was all about JKX however as they celebrated their triumphant series comeback with the coveted trophy in the pool.  The trophy was also displayed on the morning show much to the dismay of bitter Goobers fan Suzzane Reynolds.  Thanks to loyal fans/umpires/scorekeepers Dan Grunspan and Andy Osburn for making the series possible, and we look forward to another great season next year.
