Novice Page No. 2

Figure 3

If we tatted six rings exactly the same as the rings on the preceding page, we would form the center ring for our next project. Using just the shuttle, let's try it:

R, 5 ds, p, 2 ds, 3 p sep by 1 ds, 2 ds, p, 5 ds, cls R. Make 6 rings total, attaching the first p of each ring to the last p of the last ring. Finish by attaching last p of last ring to first p of first ring. TIP: when making joins always pull your thread through from the back of the ring to the front (towards you), pass your shuttle from the bottom of that loop up through the top of it.

Figure 4

With shuttle and ball tied together, attach your thread between any of the two rings as shown in Fig. 1 above.

Wind the ball thread over the top of your hand and around your pinkie as explained on page 1. Your work should be under your left hand. Now tat a chain of 12 doublestitches.

When you finish this part, make absolutely certain that chain is just the right tension. Not too tight or too loose. The next step will lock it into place and you will not be able to adjust tension on that chain again.

Drop the ball thread from your hand and with just your shuttle, make a ring right at the end of that chain as follows: R 6 ds, 3 p sep by 1 ds, 6 ds, cls R. (Fig. 2)

Again, wind the ball thread over your hand and around your pinkie. Chain 12 doublestitches adjust the tension on the chain and attach it between the next two rings using your shuttle thread.(Fig. 3)

Continue in this manner for all 6 points and you will end up with this:

A lovely snowflake medallion!
