Sweet Cornbread |
1 cup cornmeal (white) 1 cup flour 2 tablespoons sugar 4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup shortening 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 1 egg ** If using self rising flour, decrease baking powder to 2 teaspoons and omit salt |
Heat oven to 425. Grease square pan, 8x8x2 or 9x9x2 inches. Blend all ingredients about 20 seconds. Beat vigorously 1 minute. Pour into pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. |
