In 2000, on our sixth adventure, we both had changed jobs and lost vacation time. Over Labor Day in September we drove our own 4 wheel drive Jeep Cherokee Lorado to our friend Tony's new property that he and his wife had purchased in upper state Wisconsin. ![]() We continued on north-west through Toronto Canada around the Great Lakes, stopping to take pictures on the way. Here are a few: ![]() We stopped at an Indian Casino in Canada. As you can see, it emptied my pockets! ![]() We caught a terrific sunset on Lake Ontario. We followed Rts 400 and 69 to 17 which brought us to Sault St. Marie, Michigan. We continued on along the coast of Lake Superior and stopped at little towns all the way. Here's a picture of a mural painted on the front of a building that we really liked: ![]() After passing Thunder Bay on Rte 11, we had to continue west to get on Rte 75 south at Winnipeg to get back to the States and to Wisconsin. We finally arrived at our friend Tony and Kim's new home in the north woods of ![]() Sheila, Dave and Tony. ![]() Tony Sheila and Dave ![]() We didn't take this shot, it was sent to us but it's a great shot of Dave helping out 'splitting' wood. ![]() Here's another couple of pictures of the "hugh building" that Tony sent to me when they were closer to completion: ![]() ![]() Tony and Kim 'resting' in the 'loft'. Tony sent us a photo of a bear he spotted on his land: ![]() We immediately set off to light a hand granade taped to the end of a long stick (which Tony gave to Sheila to hold, while we all ran to take cover). Seems that Tony needed make his 'narrow little river' a bit wider. Soon after that, we took up target practice, shooting guns and rifles at a little target behind the trailer that was nailed to a tree. I actually hit the target (and was so excited, I turned around and aimed the loaded gun at all my friends who quickly ran for cover!) Yes indeeeedee.... a great time for the girls from Boston... ;-) We showered using the water Tony had provided in a large coffee urn with a shower hose attachment... what an adventure! The next day we met a couple of Tony's friends and we all took a short ride to a beautiful river. ![]() ![]() By now, Sheila was quite sick with the flu and anxious to get home so we headed out to go east through the upper peninsula Michigan. We did stop to take some photos on the way home as there were many lighthouses around the great lakes. ![]() Here's Sheila making a wish (to feel better). ![]() Here's Pat, making a wish too ! ![]() Pat Pumping Water (Tony should have had one of these!). ![]() A stop on the way to take a picture of this water wheel. ![]() Sheila enjoys the view of a waterfall. ![]() Here's one of the lighthouses we stopped at. We then went south on Rte 2 and we stopped at the 'thumb' of Michigan for the night (I think it was Saginaw). By AM Shiela was feeling really sick. I wanted to drive but she wouldn't hear of it! The plan was to drive as far as the New York border and spend the night. It was raining and foggy and terrible driving conditions. Signs warning of leaping deers and hugh trucks screaming by like we were standing still. I was so glad to get to New York at dark but Shiela insisted on driving the rest of the way, through New York, and all the way home to Boston... (I knew we were going to die that night!). Well, that's it, our 1 week vacation to visit our friends in Wisconsin. A fun time was had by all! click here to return to the home page. |
