Ernest Hemingway 1899-1961 Born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1899, Hemingway started his writing career writing for the Kansas City Star. He volunteered in WWI as an ambulance driver, then settled in Paris in 1921. Hemingway went on to win a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. From the stories of Nick and early short stories to his later stories of Islands In The Stream and To Have And Have Not, I find Hemingway's work a true model of the human spirit. After a full and turbulent life, Hemingway ended it in with a gun in Idaho. The picture below is a haunting image of his future. His life in the Keys and Cuba still echos in his books, in the minds of many readers, and in Jimmy Buffetts songs. |
