Atithi-devo Bhava
May the guest be, to thee, a god
Deva-pitru-kaaryaabhyaam
Na Pramadi-tavyam
never swerve from your duties towards gods and
towards the departed souls (Manes)
Satyam Jnaanam Anantam Brahma
Brahman is the Truth, Knowledge, Infinity
Annagum Hi Bhootaanaam Jyeshtam
So, verily, food is the eldest of all the creatures
Yato Vaacho Nivartante,
Apraapya Manasaa Saha
Whence all the speech turn back with the mind without reaching it
(that is the Eternal Truth, the Brahman)
Vijnaanam Yajnam Tanute
Knowledge performs the sacrifices
Annam Na Nindyaat, Tad-vratam
Do not blaspheme food, that shall be your vow
Annam Na Parichaksheet, Tad-vratam
Do not reject food, that is a duty
Annam Bahu Kurveeta, Tad-vratam
Accumulate plenty of food, that is the duty
Na Kanchana Vasatau Pratyaa-chaksheeta, Tad -vratam
Do not turn away anybody who seeks shelter and lodging
Om Saha Naavavatu
Sahanau Bhunaktu
Saha Veeryam Karavaavahai
Tejasvi Naava Adheetam Astu
Ma Vidvishaa-vahai
Om Shantih Shantih Shantih

May He help us both to enjoy the fruits of scriptural study.
May we both exert together to find the true meaning of the sacred text.
