Married into the royal family of Mewar in Rajasthan, when her relatives persecuted her for her excessive devotion to Krishna to the exclusion of everything else, Mira left Chittor and became a wandering bhakta pouring forth her heart in rapturous and melodious hymns on Krishna. She considered Lord krishna Himself as her husband and sang of Him in great ecstacy. The sweet melody of her devotional songs echoed her absolute self-surrender to Krishna. These Mira Bhajans are even now popular in religious and musical gatherings.
