Gabriela Potorac's Biography

Gabriela "Gabi" Potorac was born in Bacau on February 6, 1973 to Vasile
& Vergina Potorac, both of whom are locksmiths. She has 2 older brothers
named Vasile & Culita, an older sister named Marinela & a younger sister
named Camelia. Her home club is Clubul Sportiv Bacau & her coaches
before she moved to Deva were Mircea & Marina Bibire. Her favorite event
was beam. Gabi was a member of the 1989 Worlds team where she placed
2nd. with her team & took a bronze on beam. She also made a strong showing
by making the 1988 Olympic team, where she placed 2nd. with the team,
4th. all-around, 2nd. on vault & 3rd. on beam...establishing herself as on of
the all-time greats from the Romanian program. She was often overshadowed
by her better-known teammates. In late 1989 Gabi retired at the age of 16 due
to the revolution. She remained in Romania for a long time but then moved
to Tokyo, Japan to coach.
