Eugenia Popa was born on September 10, 1973 in Bucharest. She comes from a large family, having 3 sisters. She was one of the most stylish gymnasts ever on the Romanian team. In 1987 she moved to Deva & joined the senior team, although she was often overshadowed by the better-known gymnasts. Eugenia was a member of 2 World Championship teams, in 1989 & 1991. She was also the alternate on the 1992 Olympic team. Shortly after the 1992 Olympics, Eugenia retired. She was 19. She went on to study at the Ecological University before moving to Northern Ireland to coach...then moving again to coach in England. In December 1999 she accepted a coaching job in California.
