Alexandra Marinescu's Biography

Alexandra Marinescu, born on March 19, 1981 in Bucharest, is the daughter
of Alexandru, a quality controller at a factory & Anca, a computer analyst.
She's also the only child. Alexandra never got the opportunity to prove how
good she really was, since she was substituded twice in the all-around, once
at the 1996 Olympics & again at th 1997 Worlds, for teammate Simona Amanar.
Alexandra began gymnastics at the age of 4 in Bucharest, at the suggestion of
her swimming instructor. Her favorite event was beam & her favorite gymnasts
were Cristina Bontas, Nadia Comaneci & Lavinia Milosovici. She left her
Triumf Bucuresti club in 1996 to train in Deva at the national training center.
Her coach, Benone Pereteanu accompanied her. In her spare time Alexandra
likes to read & listen to music. She likes adventure & science fiction books.
She also likes comedy movies & her favorite actors are Tom Hanks & Jim
Carey. Alexandra's favorite food is chocolate. In school, her favorite subjects
were Math, Art & English. Of all the countries she's been to, her favorite
place was Stockholm, Sweden. At age 15, Alexandra was 4'10" tall & weighed
79 pounds. Shortly after the 1997 Worlds, Alexandra retired. She was 16. She
now lives with her grandmother in Deva & in 1998 she signed a 5 year
