Aurelia Dobre's Biography

Aurelia Dobre was born on November 6, 1972 in Bucharest. She began
gymnastics at teh age of 6 & is best known for her history making performance
at the 1987 Worlds, where she became the first Romanian, male or female,
to win the gold medal in the all-around. Unfortunatly, not long after these
Worlds, Aurelia suffered a knee injury which required surgery. She was not
100% ready for the 1988 Olympics but she competed anyway, placing 6th.
all-around. Aurelia went on to compete in the 1989 Worlds, but retired shortly
after due to the revolution in Romania & the temporary closing of the Deva
gym. She was only 17. A year later, she posed nude in an 8 page spread for
the Dutch Playboy, & a year after that, competed in the 1991 World
Professional Championships in the USA. Not long after this meet, she met
Boz Mofid & on November 7, 1992 the couple was married. In March 1993
they had their first son, Cyrus. Their second son, Darius, was born in May 1995
& their twin sons, Lucas & Marcus, were born in January 1999. They now
reside in Gaithursburg, Maryland & coach at Fit n' Fun Gymnastics club which
is owned by Aurelia's husband.
