Note 1
Shmi,

My father asks for a complete list of Rebellion membership and assignments. We need this to prepare for the upcoming battle. Just send it by way of me.

Note 2
Leia,

I'm sending what you've requested your way. Is there anything else you need?

Shmi

Note 3
Shmi,

My father thanks you for the information that he requested. Right now there is nothing else I needed.

Have you been in charge of registration for a long time? I was wondering if you could tell me about past things the Rebellion has done, such as past battles and conflicts.

Is this the biggest battle that has ever taken place? Based on your previous experience, what would you say our chances of destroying the Death Star are?

Leia
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 4
Princess Leia,

Tell your father that he's welcome for the information, will you please?

Yes, I'll say this is the biggest battle the Rebellion has fought, but from what I heard from my friend Samantha that the plans have provided a huge weakness, which gives us the upper hand in the battle if we know where the weakness is and all. I hope we do win this battle, it would be terrible if we do not.

Well, I'll try and tell you what I know from having this job, but first I need to know what you would like to know. I'll answer what I can.

Shmi

Note 5
Shmi,

I told him that he’s welcome for the information and he smiled.

You’re friends with Samantha too? My father is one of her friends.

The battle is not going very well. My friend Luke is fighting in it, and I’m very worried about him. I don’t want him to die, but there’s a ship that he can’t shake and I’m scared that he’ll die. There’s only a minute left until the Death Star puts us in range anyway.

What past missions has the Rebellion tried achieving, and what was the success rate?

How many people from the Rebellion have died up to date?

How long have you known my father? Do you know much about my mother? My dad won’t talk about her much because it saddens him. He told me that she died shortly after my birth, so I know it must be a touchy subject for him. He told me that her name was Sara.

Leia
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 6
Leia,

I've known your father and mother just a little shorter than Samantha, but I can't tell you everything you may wish to know (like your mother). I don't know much about Sara at all, so I can't tell you anything. Sorry.

Not many people have dead in the Rebellion, but of course there were some. I'll have to look in the files if you want an exact number.

Well, since the Rebellion base is secret, the missions that we have are mostly successful.

Shmi
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 7
Shmi,

Okay, so you’ve known my father and mother for a long time. So you don’t know much about Sara.

Well sure…..go ahead and give me an exact number of Rebellion members that have been killed.

I was so proud of my friend!!!!!!! He blew up the Death Star, and my other friend (who seemed rather selfish) came back and saved his life!

It’s encouraging to know that most of the Rebel missions have been successful.

Are you going to the awards ceremony? I’m going to try and get my dad to have it. I’m begging him right now, and I think he’s going to give in.

Also, where do you think our new base will be?

How many rebel bases have there been so far, and on what planets? Where was the first Rebel Base?

Who are the big leaders of the Empire. Obviously Tarkin was one of them (I learned about him on my stay on the Death Star), but he died because he was on the Death Star when it blew up. I know that Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine are others….but what about everyone else. How can Darth Vader be so evil? I wonder who his parents were. Whoever they were, they didn’t do a very good job of raising him. I wonder if Palpatine personally raised him….or maybe he’s Palpatine’s son!

Leia
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 8
Leia,

I have no idea who Vader's parents are, or anything. All I know is that he is evil and second to the Emperor (which means when the Emperor dies Vader will be in charge and I'm not sure if that's a good thing). Since Palpatine is as evil (or worse) than Vader, maybe he is his father, but I'm not sure.

Well, I'm not going to be able to go to the award ceremony, because of work, so I hope you don't mind that.

I'm so glad your friend was able to blow up the Death Star! He must be a wonder pilot with a great aim!!

Well, I looked in the files, but I'm afraid I only found some of the number of people that died in the Rebellion. The number I found was 86, you're SO cruel making me do that, I'll have to get you back someday. :-} BTW, am I right about the number, or do you have even have an idea of the number, because I don't). I don't believe that that's all the number, because we lost some files whenever we moved from base to base, but that mostly on the secret missions that we performed, and others that died by health problems, or running into Vader (or anyone else on his side), or just not having a very good day and accidentally got killed (that happens, you know).

Our new base is on Hoth, which is a COLD planet, so you'll have to be ready for that. I lost count of how many bases we've had, so I can't tell you what the planets names were and everything. Sorry about that.

Most people on the Empire's side, are mostly clones (stormtroopers), and then there are some people I don't even know about that aren't very important, but mostly it's Vader and the Emperor, because they're the ones that are in rule (well the Emperor is, but Vader directly under him), and everyone else are either clones, or just really dumb people.

Well, I have to get back to work.

Note 9
First Leia and Shmi Note written after AOTC came out

Shmi,

Darth Vader is a strange name…at any rate. His parents must have been as strange as he is to have named their son that. Vader is VERY evil….and wow…if something were to happen to the Emperor…Vader would become in charge of the Empire. That doesn’t sound very good. Of course…since you told me that Palpatine is as evil (or more evil) than Vader…maybe it would be a good thing. How old is Palpatine anyway? Maybe he’ll die soon. I still think that Palpatine would have had to have been Vader’s father…or at least the one who raised him because I don’t know who else would raise a child to be like Vader.

I’m sorry that you missed the awards ceremony. It was AWESOME. I was glad that so many people were there…I don’t know the exact number…but I do know that the room was filled. The music was beautiful…and my one friend (Luke) looked very handsome. He’s the one that blew up the Death Star, and to tell you the truth, I think he was embarrassed at the awards ceremony. His smile was cute though. I got to give them the awards…I got to put them around Han and Luke’s necks, and I was just so proud of both of them. Han looked like he was proud of what he had done…and maybe a little embarrassed too, but as if he were trying to hide the embarrassment with confidence. I truly believe that he enjoyed the awards ceremony…having all those people look at him as he received an award.

Luke told me that he had never flown before…yet he was the one that destroyed the Death Star. That doesn’t make any sense to me. He had literally had NO piloting experience before. I’m glad that he was the one that blew it up…but it just surprised me. He must have a natural talent for flying or something. He is already a wonderful pilot and has a great aim. I don’t even understand how he made that shot…because he switched off his targeting computer before making the shot.

So 86 people have died in the Rebellion? Thanks for the information.

Hoth is a very cold planet. I wouldn’t think that anyone else would be living here…do you? I know how important it is that we find out whether we are completely alone here or not. My friends Han and Luke volunteered to go out on Tauntauns to look for life forms. They should be back any minute now. Have you heard anything? I really would like to get in a good conversation with Luke.

You mean to tell me that the stormtroopers are all clones? Who were they cloned from? Clones…that explains why all the stormtroopers are idiots.

Leia

Note 10
Leia—

Well, I don’t know who Vader’s parents are, but they certainly did a very bad job at raising their children. Maybe Palpatine was his father, and you’re right—that would explain why he’s so evil. I hope Vader is never in charge of the Empire, because I hope that we can destroy the Empire very soon. I don’t know how old Palpatine is, but I would imagine he is very old. He’s been around since he was senator of Naboo, and he was always very corrupt, he just fooled people.

I just don’t like going to awards ceremonies, sorry. I’m sure everything was very nice—I did peek in for one second to see everything. Luke and Han seem like very nice people. Do you have special feelings for either one of them? Wow! I can’t believe that. No experience at all?? How did he manage to make such a great shot with his targeting computers off? Yes, he must have an amazing natural ability. I’ve never heard of anyone that could fly so well and shoot so well that didn’t have years of training.

Yes, but like I said, could be wrong… I’m almost positive that more than 86 people died. However, for an operation of this magnitude, that’s actually a very small number.

Yes, Stormtroopers being clones really does explain their stupidity. I guess there just weren’t enough men to fight a war, so they had to create some. It turned against the Republic in the end because Palpatine took control of the Stormtroopers.

Oh, your friend isn’t back yet? The doors have already been shut for the night! It’s very, very cold outside. I hope that Luke is safe, and Han as well. They don’t have a big chance to survive if they’re out there in the cold!
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 11
Shmi,

Luke and Han ARE very nice people. They are my best friends here. Do I have special feelings for either one of them? Now that’s getting a little personal, but I don’t mind answering your question…

When I first met Luke, I felt something for him right away. I’m not sure how to describe it, maybe it was trust? I don’t know…but I developed a crush on him. He has a great personality, and he’s such a great guy. But then there’s Han…whom I met a little later. Han likes to come off as conceited and out for himself, but he’s also a very good friend. I don’t know…I like them both…and I can’t decide. Actually I have developed different feelings for them, and it’s hard to explain. There’s something about Han that just draws me to him. Before I tell you that I love either one of them, I have to think about my feelings for them first. Can you give me some time to think everything over?

Well, technically he liked to go out with his friends and race skyhoppers for fun. He told me that was the only form of entertainment on his planet. He just did that for fun…like other people might go for a walk or something. I’m guessing he was pretty good at that. But he never did any real flying before. I’m not sure how he was able to shoot it with his targeting computer off, though. He never told me. I think he’s embarrassed about all the attention he’s getting. I know he hasn’t had training in flying, though.

It was under my impression that the clones were always under Palpatine’s control…that he set up the clone army, keeping his Imperial government in mind. I heard he had emergency powers at the start of the clone wars, which gave him direct control over the stormtroopers. Am I wrong about that?

Well…..my friend was left out in the cold all night, but luckily my other friend, Han, went out after him on a Tauntaun, and was able to find him. Luke (who is now recovering from the experience), told me a Wampa Creature knocked Luke out, killed his Tauntaun, and dragged him off to it’s cave. Once there, Luke was able to cut off the Wampa’s arm and went back outside. By that time it was storming, and Luke couldn’t take all the cold (really I don’t think anyone would), and he passed out. He was barely alive when Han found him. Zev and Wedge went out to look for them early the next morning, and both were brought back alive. Han was fine, but Luke had to go in the bacta tank for a while. After that, he had to go to the med section.

I guess from being out in all that cold he came down with pneumonia, so he’s going to be in the medical section for a while. He has asthma too…so I don’t think any of this is helping him.

I’m going to make him some soup and see if I can see him later.

I heard that there was an Imperial probe droid sighted. Han told me all about it. He told me that he shot the thing, but it exploded, so he thinks it must have been a self destruct.

My father told me that a fleet of Imperial ships have been spotted in our sector. That’s not too promising. He put of the shield, and nothing is supposed to get through the shield, so I’m sure we’re going to have some sort of ground assault.

Let me know if you hear anything.

Leia
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 12
Leia,

I’m sorry if I was getting too personal. I didn’t mean to offend you or anything, I was just wondering. Thanks for answering anyway.

Yes, I understand. Sometimes you can love two people at the same time, and it can be complicated. I’m thinking of not-romantically, but I’m sure the same thing still applies. Sure…you just think about it, because you don’t have to tell me right now about which one you have feelings for.

A lot of young people would race skyhoppers on Tatooine, I remember. There really isn’t a lot to do on that planet.

Has your friend been tested for having the Force? Maybe that’s why he could make the shot without his targeting computer switched off. People that have the Force can do things like that.

That’s true. If someone had only stopped him…or thought twice about giving him that much power, he might not have gotten to where he is today.

Wow, that’s such an amazing story!!!!!! Luke really must have special powers if he could live after being captured by a Wampa!! Han must be very brave to have done that, too. Bacta tanks aren’t very fun, from what I’ve heard. I’ve never had to be in one.

That is so sad. I mean, that he would go out there to try and protect us and then get pneumonia. Oh, he has asthma? That’s terrible, I hope he’s okay.

That’s very kind of you, I’m sure he’ll appreciate the visit. (And the soup :-)

Oh, dear. That’s terrible. I can’t believe the Empire would find us out here in the middle of nowhere. The shield? I guess I better get ready to evacuate.

Remember to be safe!

Shmi
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 13
Shmi,

I’d like to hear how Luke did in the battle. He told me he’d be in it, and last I heard, he was in it. I was in the base during the battle, and then Han tried to escort me to one of the transports, but on our way walking through the passageways, a big ice chunk almost fell on me, and Han decided to take me on the Millennium Falcon.

As soon as we were in the ship, we took off, but what we didn’t realize was the hyperdrive was damaged, and it was impossible to go to lightspeed. The entire Imperial fleet seemed to be following us, but we were far enough ahead of them, and our shields were strong enough that none of their laser blasts really caused that much damage. They didn’t’ seem to be trying to shoot us down…I’m not sure what they were after. I think they could have taken us down if they wanted to. While Han was working on the ship, we entered an asteroid field, and instead of avoiding it, Han flew RIGHT IN the asteroid field. I was scared, but Han’s a good pilot. I knew that if we stayed out much longer, we would get pulverized, even with a good pilot.

So Han decided to take us into this “cave”. It wasn’t a real cave, though…it was a monster’s throat. As soon as we realized what it was, we flew out of it, back out towards the Imperial fleet. Knowing that we had no chance of escaping, Han decided to do something kind of stupid. He moved into attack position and flew right towards one of the big Star Destroyers. But instead of attacking, he attached the ship to the side of one of the sides, and the Imperials could no longer detect us. I’m not sure what Han has in mind, but I intend on finding out. What he did was absolutely insane. Maybe I won’t think so once I understand what he’s doing. I have no idea what we’re going to do/where we’re going to go next. Are you at the rendezvous point? I hope so. How are things going over there?

Do you know how Luke did in the battle?

No, you didn’t offend me at all. I was just making a comment that it was a little personal. You want me to tell you how I think about Han and Luke in a nomromantic way? Well both Han and Luke are great guys. They are my very best friends, especially Luke. He and I have gotten to be such good friends, and in so short a time. I don’t think I’ve ever had as close a friend as Luke is right now. Luke and I are the same age, and Han’s 11 years older. Maybe it’s easier for me to talk to Luke for that reason.

Now about feelings…I do have strong feelings for both of them. But I have realized that I am in love with Han. He may seem conceited on the outside, but he is so kind and caring…..and I don’t know…I am just romantically drawn to him. It makes no sense because I should be in love with someone like Luke over Han, but that’s not the case. Besides that, I have this feeling inside of me like I’m going to marry Han. I can’t explain it. Luke is a very kind and caring guy….and he is probably the nicest guy I have ever met! I can’t help my feelings for Han. I hope I don’t hurt Luke’s feelings too badly. I think that he might like me in a romantic way.

I noticed that there wasn’t that much to do on Tatooine when Luke took me to his house. He said there are some spaceports, and something called Beggar’s Canyon (he said that’s the prettiest landmark on Tatooine). But it appeared to be a very hot desert which made up the entire planet.

Luke never actually came right out and told me he had the Force…but I’ve been talking to him for a while. He had to do this report on some Jedi, and he started talking to this guy on his planet named Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan is a Jedi, and for some reason, Obi-Wan thought Luke might have the Force…just from talking with him and hearing about some of the things Luke did (like how he found me). I think Obi-Wan tested him for the Force or something, and I’m pretty sure the test came out positive. Luke also showed me a lightsaber that Obi-Wan gave him. (It belonged to his father, Alex Skywalker.) Now that much, I do know. So the Force makes pilots be able to do stuff like what Luke did in the Death star battle? I guess he does have the Force then.

Luke told me he was hanging upside down in that Wampa’s cave, and the lightsaber was on the ground. He told me he struggled to reach it, but it was out of his reach. He told me something weird happened…like he was thinking about getting the lightsaber, trying to do some stuff Obi-Wan taught him (Obi-Wan hasn’t taught him much), and somehow the lightsaber went into his hand, and he was able to cut himself loose. Isn’t that weird? I suppose that was probably the Force too.

Yes, Han is very brave…and I suppose that’s one thing that draws me to him.

Thankfully, I’ve never had to be in a bacta tank either.

I heard Luke’s fully recovered now, though. I hope he did well in the battle, and I hope he made it to the rendezvous point all right. It is too bad that he ended up getting pneumonia, but he is all right now, which I am grateful for.

Yes, Luke told me he has asthma, and that it’s REALLY bad, but he doesn’t get it that often. At least that’s what his uncle told me. I think he’s okay most of the time. He doesn’t seem like it bothers him very often. I’ve only been around him once when he had an attack, and that was when I first met him, back in the factory. He told me not to worry about him very much, because he does have an inhaler, and he knows how to handle it.

Yes…well I did stop by to see him while he was sick. Han, Wedge, and I all did. Luke was asleep when we first went in, but we started talking to each other. For some strange reason, the subject of birthdays came up, and Wedge and I found out we had the same birthday as each other. That was interesting, but then Luke started waking up. Wedge talked to him for a few minutes, but had to leave. That left Han, Chewie, the droids, and I alone with him. Han decided to bring up the South Passage incident right then….IN FRONT OF LUKE. I got mad at him, and I kissed Luke (because Han was trying to say I had special feelings for him…acting all conceited.) I hope he enjoyed that.

Luke also told me he liked the soup…that it helped him feel a lot better.

Did I tell you what the droids did to my room? They turned up the heat in my room because they thought I’d be too cold the way it was…and the ice walls melted! All my clothes became saturated with water, and I had to go borrow clothes from someone else until they dried. Surprisingly, Mon Mothma’s clothes fit me all right, so I wore one of her dresses.

From where you were, did you think the evacuation went well? I think the Imperials took some prisoners. I hope Luke didn’t get caught.

Leia

Note 14
Leia,

Luke did SUCH a good job. He was seriously the best pilot out there. He thought of this really cool harpooning trick to bring down an AT-AT.

Oh. My. Gosh. That is such a crazy story!!! I can’t believe you guys survived all that! Navigating through an asteroid field? Flying into a cave that turned out to be a lifeform? Wow. Han must have some skill!

Oh, I’m glad I didn’t offend you, because I really wasn’t trying to. Yes, I understand about the age thing.

Oh, I know what you mean. But you can’t be untrue to what you feel inside. It wouldn’t be fair to you, Han, or Luke. Besides, if you and Luke really have a stable friendship, then it can withstand anything.

Yeah, Tatooine is really one big desert.

Wow, having the Force is…a big responsibility. A huge one, in fact. Luke should definitely seek training from Obi-Wan, because he knows what he’s talking about. And being good with a lightsaber is a great skill, too. You should be really proud of Luke.

I think Luke has pretty much fully recovered. Yes, it is too bad that he got pneumonia, but I’m sure he’ll be fine. Oh, that’s terrible about his asthma. I know that he’s really concerned about being around smokers. Yeah, and having an inhaler is a really valuable thing.

Ah!! I’m sure he did enjoy it. ;-)

Aww, I’m glad he enjoyed the soup!

AGH! I would rip those droids apart for that! (well, not really, but I would probably reset their memory.) I wouldn’t be too surprised that Mon Mothma’s close fit you…

I think the evacuation went pretty well, and I don’t think Luke got captured, because I know that he made it to his X-Wing, because the records say that.

Shmi
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 15
Shmi,

Yes, Luke must have done a good job, and that doesn’t surprise me. I know how he did in that trench battle…but he does really amaze me. I am so glad that he is one of my best friends. He is the nicest guy I have ever met. Luke must have some sort of natural flying ability. Han has told me that it usually takes at least a year for a completely unexperienced pilot to get to the level that Luke started out at. So he thought of a cool harpooning trick to bring down the Imperial Walkers. Could you give me more information? It sounds very interesting.

Yeah…well what can I say. Han IS crazy. :) Just kidding…but sometimes I do wonder about him. We made it out of there safely, and that is all that matters. Han does have skill…but in a different way than Luke does. Luke’s skill seems almost unnatural…but Han’s had training and experience.

You’re right…I should be true to my heart, even if it does not make sense. Han is the one that I love…and even though it might be hard for Luke to take at first, at least it will be fair to him. I only hope he doesn’t feel too bad about my feelings. The last thing in the galaxy that I would want to do would be to hurt him. I believe that our friendship should be able to withstand this.

How is everyone back at the fleet? How is my father? He must be very worried about me. Will you please assure him for me that I am all right.

I’m glad I was not on Tatooine for long. I don’t like being that hot…and it was very desolate there. If I stayed on that planet for any length of time I would know I would miss the greenery and running water that are prevalent on many other planets.

According to what Luke has told me, he IS seeking training from some Jedi person…I guess both Obi-Wan and some old Jedi master named Yoda. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about the responsibility of having the Force. I hope Luke does fine with his training. I’m sure he will. I am proud of Luke…he is the closest friend I’ve ever had. My feelings for him are different than I’ve ever had for any other person in my entire life.

I certainly hope that Luke has pretty much fully recovered by now. I hope that the pneumonia wasn’t too hard on him. Yeah…I don’t know what I’d do if I were Luke. I think having asthma would be scary, and I’m not sure I’d be able to handle it well. Luke’s tough, though, and he hardly ever complains about anything…even when his asthma is bothering him. I can see why Luke would be concerned about being around smokers. It can’t be good for him…and I’m sure it would really irritate his asthma. It is good that he has his inhaler, though.

The droids that are in our group of friends (their names are R2-D2 and C-3PO) seem to be well built…and have good programming. They’re pretty smart for droids. I would be afraid to wipe their memories. They must be holding some pretty interesting and valuable information. C-3PO has told me that he has lots of stories that he would be very willing to tell. Sometime I’d like to take him up on his offer…but not now.

It’s good to know that Luke made it to his X-Wing…I only wish I knew that he was safe.

As I told you before, soon as we realized what we were in, we flew out of it, back out towards the Imperial fleet.

Leia

Note 16
Leia,

Here's an expert from a letter Luke sent me about the battle:

Well early on in the battle I figured out that the blaster’s weren’t working…so I knew we had to come up with another plan. I decided to try using the tow cables and tying up the Walker’s legs so that we could trip them, and then destroy them. I figured they were bulky enough, and that the people controlling them wouldn’t notice until it was too late. My ship was able to take one down.

We came into some heavy fire, and one of the blasts killed Dack. That was REALLY scary…looking back and seeing him dead. I felt so bad…like it was my fault. Well I couldn’t fire the tow cable from my section of the snowspeeder, so I contacted Wedge. I asked him to follow me on the next pass. Wedge did, and he and his person in his ship successfully downed several of them by following me.

Then Wedge and his person went after the fallen Walkers and destroyed them. Wedge certainly can do good work!

Then I encountered some more fire, and it damaged my snowspeeder so badly that I could barely control it. I knew that I needed to crash land it. I tried to do it as gently as possible, but the landing was still rough.

There was this huge Walker coming towards me, and I got another idea. I grabbed some thermal detonators from the snowspeeder, and I jumped out just as the Walker was about to smash it. It did smash it…another near death experience. I seem to be good at getting in near death situations. Well anyway, I knew I wouldn’t survive long on the ground, so I through this grappling hook on the underside of the Walker. That pulled me up. I cut some insides of the Walker out…small holes, and through the detonators in. I grabbed the grappling hook and jumped. Because of the long fall, and the cold, the fall made me go unconscious, but uninjured. I woke up a few minutes later…when the battle was over, and made a run back for the base.

So you see, he really thought quickly on his feet and pulled off some pretty amazing stunts!

Ah. So Han is just more mature and seasoned. I see.

I think I've gotten to be pretty good friends with Luke, and I know that he cares about you a lot. However, it's always better to be completely honest. I think that while expressing your admiration for Luke as a person, you should let him know that you're only interested in being friends.

I will be glad to relay the message to your father. He was very worried about you, because he thought you were coming with us.

Even if Tatooine is a desert wasteland, I guess you just get used to it. It has it's perks... I can't think of any right now, but I'm sure it does.

Really? Do you feel for Luke like you would to a brother? That would be very interesting.

Luke told me he was feeling better in one of his letters, and I believe he does have his inhaler with him while he trains under a Jedi master.

C-3P0????? A droid that my son built had the same name... I wondered what happened to him!! Somehow he disappeared one day... I thought my husband had sold him. It would be such a coincidence if that was the same droid!

You attached yourself to the side of an Imperial Star Cruiser?? Ai! Han must be really brave (or really crazy, as you said).

Take care,

Shmi
_______________________________________________________________________________
Note 17
Shmi,

Actually…Han did elude the Imperials. In my last letter I told you about how he hid the Millennium Falcon on the side of the Star Destroyer, and that he planned on releasing the ship when the garbage was sent out of the ship…so that we could blend in with the garbage. That plan worked! The Imperials had no idea! They went into hyperspace in the opposite direction, and we went on to Bespin (Cloud City.)

Han has an “old friend” named Lando Calrissian that owns this mining colony. We went there to have our ship repaired. Lando is a nice enough guy, but there is something about him that I don’t like. Cloud city seemed to quiet when we first landed, and I didn’t like that. I have a very uncomfortable feeling…like something’s not right. I’m not sure what it is…why I don’t trust Lando…but I don’t. He’s been so nice to me, kind of flirty when he sees me.

Something happened to C-3PO too. He wondered off in some strange direction and somehow got dismantled. Chewie’s been working on him for some time, trying to get all those pieces together. Whoever built C-3PO did a very good job, and it is evident when you see him in pieces.

Cloud City is so beautiful though…Han and I have been talking, and we’ve had a lot of good conversations.

Lando just came in to invite us to a banquet “in our honor.” To be honest, I am a little hungry, so I am looking forward to this banquet. Maybe it will help ease the tensions between Lando and Han. Although they claim to be “buddies” , there is definitely something between them that is causing Lando to act a little strange around Han. I can’t put my finger on it. I am also hoping this banquet will put my mind at ease about Lando, and convince me that I’m just paranoid.

For the banquet I must break now. I’ll return to writing this letter afterwards.

I’m back now. You’re right. From Luke’s letter it certainly does sound that he thought very quickly. Luke always surprises me in the most unexpected ways, which is one thing I really like about him.

Han…Han…..the Empire has been so cruel to both of us! I’ll save that for later, though.

You’ve gotten to be good friends with Luke, also? Good. Well, I did tell him that I love Han, and he made it sound as if didn’t feel the same way about me, but I’m almost certain that it hurt him. I did tell him that I valued our friendship, and I think he understood.

I’m afraid that you’re going to have to give my father another message. I am now in the hands of the Empire. You’ll understand once I tell you what’s been happening where I am now.

Do I feel for Luke like I would to a brother? I don’t know…he and I are very close…and I guess it could be like a brother…in school really good friends (both female) would say they were sisters, so I suppose it would also apply to friends of the opposite sex.

I’m glad Luke is feeling better now. So he has his inhaler with him? That’s good because he told me in one of his letters a while ago that exercise does make his asthma act up.

C-3PO was built by your son? Now that is very interesting! I wonder if Luke knows that…knows that the person he did the report on built C-3PO. I’ll have to ask him about that sometime…or maybe you could. I’m in kind of a tough spot right now. I bet it is the same droid. How many droids named C-3PO could there be? Anyway, I’ll have him brought to you once we’re off Cloud City, and you can confirm whether or not it is the same droid.

Vader is a MEAN, TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE nightmare monster. You know what he did? He sent out that Bounty Hunter named Boba Fett after us, and Fett followed us to Cloud City. Of course the Imperials, with their working hyperdrives landed on Cloud City before then.

Remember that banquet I was telling you about? Well guess who was the host of it? DARTH VADER. Lando betrayed us to him, and immediately he started torturing us. The thing is, he hasn’t even asked us any questions! I don’t understand why he is doing this. The man is insane! He has been so mean to us…he made me walk on these sharp rocks (okay, so they don’t bother most people, but they hurt MY feet.) And then he made me walk on these hot coals. He threw me off a ledge really hard and almost killed me…and did so many more things to us. Why doesn’t he just kill us? It’s evident that he wants us all dead. Be glad you’re not here with us. Maybe you can live. I don’t think we will.

Vader seems to enjoy torturing me more than Han…because he thinks I feel pain more than Han does.

Right now I can’t say much to you because Vader has been torturing us.

Your friend,
Leia

Note 18
Leia,

I’ve never heard of a place called Cloud City before. Lando? And he’s flirting with you? How does Han feel about that?

C-3PO…He’s in pieces? Who dismantled him??

Oh, you told Luke that you loved Han? And you think he didn’t take it so well? That’s too bad. Poor kid!

WHAT?! You’re in the hands of the Empire??!? What’s going on??

Oh no! The bounty hunter Boba Fett?? He’s on your track! That’s terrible!

VADER HAS BEEN TORTURING YOU?? Leia! That’s awful! I can’t believe someone Han thought was his friend could betray him…rocks? Hot coals? I wish I could do something to help you! I will tell your father immediately.

Take care of yourself…I’m so terribly sorry.

Note 19
Shmi,

The Imperials…they came for Han, and for all of us. They led us to a carbon freezing chamber where they put Han in carbonate because they wanted to test it on him…because they want to do the same thing to Luke. Vader called Luke “the Emperor’s prize.” I wish there was a way to warn Luke, but there isn’t.

Vader gave Han over to the Bounty Hunter Boba Fett, and he took off in his ship. Then there was a report that Luke’s ship had landed, and Vader wanted Luke to be led in there as a trap. Well…the stormtroopers started leading us down selected passageways, and Luke followed. I know because I saw him when we turned one of the corners. I tried to warn him that it was a trap, and not to go, but I’m afraid I only encouraged him worse, and he followed…only we were a little ahead of him in the hallway. The stormtroopers took us through this one doorway, but they locked it as soon as we went through. I hope Luke turned back then, but I doubt he did. The only unlocked passage in that area was the carbon freezing room. He probably went in there…I hope he can handle Vader all right.

Then Lando’s men surrounded the stormtroopers, and we grabbed their weapons. I was surprised by his actions, and I was like, and you expect us to trust you after what you did? But apparently he realized that the Empire was only going to cheat him in the end, so he decided to help us. He told us how we could get Han back…by going to the south passage if Boba Fett hadn’t taken off yet. We arrived at that entrance just in time to see Boba Fett’s ship take off.

We’re not on the Millennium Falcon, getting ready to take off. I only hope that Luke is all right.

You’ve never heard of Cloud City before either? Well it is a beautiful place on the outside, but the inside…I have had nothing but an UGLY time here. This has been the worst experience of my life.

Lando was flirting with me, and of course Han didn’t like that. Would you like it if you had been him.

Chewie tried to get C-3PO back together, only he messed the job up slightly. He put C-3PO together, but backwards. Chewie’s been carrying him around on his back. I guess C-3PO wondered into a droid dismantling room or something, and he was dismantled. I’m not exactly sure what happened.

Well…I just hope that Luke is alive the next time I see him. I hate to think of what Vader could be doing to him right now. I hope Luke backed out of that place before going into the room with the trap. However, that seems unlikely. Knowing him, I’m sure that he went to pursue us, and ended up fighting Vader. If this fight results in his death, I’m going to be blaming myself!

Boba Fett now has Han, and has taken him to Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. If only there were a way of getting him back!

Yes, Vader has been torturing me. I mentioned my pain to Mon Mothma, and she told me that she knew my parents, and that I have some hereditary thing that makes me feel pain more than most people. She must have been extremely close with my parents.

Well Han just told me that we will be taking off any moment now, so I must go.
