Twenty six delegates participated in the Miss Universe 1953 pageant won by Miss France, Christiane Martel..  After her reign, Christiane went on to become a popular film actress in her native France as well as in the USA and Mexico.  She later married Miguel Aleman, Jr., the son of a former Mexican president.  She presently resides in Mexico and is a very popular social figure and is the first lady of the state of Veracruz.
