December 2 Sunday - Steep Ravine/Stinson Beach

Meet at 11:00 in front of the Stinson Beach Fire House.  Hike will begin at 11:15. The drive from San Francisco takes about 1 hour. Please contact leader if you can take a carpooler.  For info contact Gail at lgordon@peoplepc.cpm or 415-922-4954 at least 24 hours before the hike.

December 9 Sunday - Carson Falls

Visit a 30 ft. cascading waterfall on this rather strenuous 11 mile hike, starting at the spillway of Alpine Lake and ascending to a ridge in Carson Country toward the west. Beautiful views of Mt. Tam and the northside lakes. Take Sir Francis Drake Blvd to Fairfax. Meet us at the Fairfax Parkade across from the theater at 9:00. 45 minutes from S.F; hike leaves at 9:15. December 16 Sunday - Mt Home Inn/ Mt Tam

Meet at Mt Home Inn. Take the Stinson Beach/Hwy 1 exit from 101 in Mill Valley. After 1 mile, turn left at stoplight (staying on Hwy 1). After 2.5 miles, turn right onto Panoramic Hwy and go 3 miles to the parking lot. Meet 10:30am, hike begins 10:45. Approximate time to return is 3pm. January 6, Sunday-Tomales Point

Hike to the northern most tip of the Point Reyes peninsula where Tomales Bay meets the ocean.  This is a mild 10 miler with spectacular views and occasional whale sightings. January 13, Sunday-Redwood Park

Berkeley/Oakland hills hike. From Bay Bridge follow 580 to Oakland, take the 35th Ave exit, turn left and head east towards hills (becomes Redwood Road). Cross Skyline Blvd and go 2 miles to the MacDonald Staging Area parking lot on the right. In Berkeley, go east on Ashby, take 13 South, Redwood Road exit and follow directions as above. January 20, Sunday-Mt. Tam, Rock Springs

Explore the lush north side of Mt. Tam featuring water falls, lakes and redwood forests. 10 miles and semi-strenuous. Boots recommended. Bring lunch/water. Meet at Rock Springs parking lot on Mt. Tam at 10:30. Directions: from Hwy 101 take Stinson Beach Hwy 1 exit, turn left onto Panoramic Hwy, follow Mt. Tam sign to PanToll Ranger Station, turn right before the Station to Rock Springs. January 27, Sunday-Purisima Creek

The Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve is located on the  western slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking Half Moon Bay.  This magnificent preserve, encompassing over 3,000 acres, offers a wide  variety of environments. We will hike approximately 9 miles, taking the  Whittemore Gulch Trail up, and the Soda Gulch and famed Purisima Creek  Trail back down, the canyon, with about a 1200' assent/descent.  The  canyon provides towering redwoods and an understory of ferns, berries,  and wildflowers and is located in a park area that is generally considered  one of the most beautiful in San Mateo County.  Directions:  South on  Highway One through Half Moon Bay, continue another mile outside of town  to Higgins Purisma Road.  Left at intersection and proceed about 15  minutes to parking lot at end of road.    Allow at least an hour to get to this location from SF.  Parking is limited.  Meet in the parking lot at 10:15 am, hike begins at 10:30 a.m.  Estimated finish time around 3:00 p.m.  Rain cancels.  Duarte's in Pescadero for famous Green Chili Soup an option for apres-hike.  For more information, contact David G. at dmg@phillaw.com Check the PTS website 24 hours before the hike for any changes or announcements.

February 3, Sunday- Brionnes – Bear Creek Staging Area

Panoramic views of Mount Diablo, the East Bay hills and Mt. Tamalpais on a good day. Moderate 9-mile hike on rolling hills, some short steep sections. Meet at 10:30 at the Bear Creek Staging Area (fee parking), hikes leaves at 10:45. Take 24 East to Orinda exit. Left off of exit onto Camino Pablo, go 2 miles. Turn right onto Bear Creek Road, go 4 miles. Look for Bear Creek Staging Area on right. February 10, Sunday-Mt. Tam, Muir Woods

Meet at the entrance to the Mill Valley Elementary School on Throckmorton across from Old Mill Park in Mill Valley for a ramble over the flanks of Mt Tam to Muir Woods and back.  We will saunter through village streets, by fresh mountain creeks, up winding footpaths, across coastal ridges and under redwoods.  It will be a moderate to strenuous 10 mile hike with 2000 ft of elevation gain.  Dress appropriately for the weather -- in layers with poly under and a wind/rain shell over.  Bring water, hat, sunscreen, and lunch.  Group meets at 10:30 and the hike starts at 10:45.  For more information contact Chris at 986-6370 or wcc2@pge.com before the weekend of the hike. February 17, Sunday-Limantour Beach and Mount Whitenberg

February 24, Sunday-San Francisco City Hike

A  6 mile one way hike from Cole Valley to Noe Valley featuring Twin Peaks, Mt Davison and some interesting stairways. Refreshment stop in Noe Valley after the hike. Hike begins at 11AM. March 3, Sunday-MT. Tam's Cataract Falls

We skirt the east side of Alpine Lake on this strenuous, 12 mile hike to view a spectacular, canyon falls. Meet at 9:15 at Alpine Lake parking. Departure at 9:30. Take Sir Francis Drake Blvd. to Fairfax. At Fairfax turn left onto the Bolinas-Fairfax Rd. Turn left again at Sky Oaks Rd. March 10, Sunday- Muir Beach/Pelican Inn

Park in the Muir Beach parking lot.  Meet in front of  the Pelican Inn at 10:30. Hike begins at 10:45. We will cross Hwy 1 and start up the Dias Ridge trail (across from the Inn), crossing over to Miwok trail, Coyote Ridge trail and then down the beautiful Coastal trail with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco.  We will end the hike at the Pelican Inn. March 17, Sunday-McNee Ranch, Montara

 This is a moderate 8-mile hike with an elevation gain of about 1850 feet. McNee Ranch is           approximately 24 miles south of San Francisco on State Highway One. From Highway 1 in San Mateo County, drive about 4 miles south of the last Pacifica traffic signal (Linda Mar). Turn left (away from ocean) into the small parking lot (or park a little further south in the lot on the right/ocean side of the road) - this is just a few hundred feet north of (and across the street from) Montara State Beach. The trailhead is not well signed, and is easier to find coming northbound. From the peninsula and points south, take Highway 92 west to Half Moon Bay, then Highway One north for 8 miles. Parking for about 6 cars (more in two other lots; one further south a few hundred feet, on the ocean side, and the other, with lots of parking, about .5 mile north on the west/ocean side of the road). No entrance or parking fees. Meet at 10:45; hike begins at 11:00. March 24, Sunday-Double Tam

Meet at Mt. Home for a double Tam adventure taking in both south and north slopes, many vistas and habitats, and enough climbing to satisfy a moderate mountain goat.  Were else are you going to be offered the opportunity to climb the same Mt twice in one day?  It's only 10 miles, how hard can that be?  Join us and find out.  Elevation gain 3000-4000 ft.  Hike is rated moderate to strenuous.  Mt Home is on Panoramic off Highway One, approximately 2 miles past the junction with the turnoff for Muir Woods.  Dress appropriately for the weather -- in layers with poly under and a wind/rain shell over.  Bring water, hat, sunscreen, and lunch.  Group meets at 10:30 at Mt Home parking lot across from the Mt Home Inn.  Hike starts at 10:45.  For more information contact Chris at 986-6370 or wcc2@pge.com before the weekend of the hike. Marvel amazing rock formation and early spring flowers in Pinnacle National Monument near Soledad. A nine mile loop hike in the park. 1200 feet elevation gain. Boots recommended. Bring lunch/water. April 14, Sunday-Calistoga’s Oat Hill Mine

April flowers and green hills scent the air as we ascend the Oat Hill Mine Rd. on this 10 mile hike. Meet at 10:00 at the crossroads of Highway 29 and the Silverado Road just east of Calistoga. April 21, Sunday-Mount Diablo State Park – Mitchell and Donner Canyons

Soggy footing and glorious wildflowers are expected on this challenging hike. Approx.10 miles with a 1900-foot climb. Meet at 10:15, hike leaves at 10:30. Bring plenty of food, water and attire appropriate for wet conditions. Take 24 East to the 680 split. Take I-680 N towards Sacramento. Keep right after the split. Take first exit after split for Ygnacio Valley Road, follow East for 7.5 miles. Turn right onto Clayton Road, go 1 mile. Turn right onto Mitchell Canyon Road, follow to end. Go through stop sign and park in main staging area at the end of the drive. April 26, Friday Night-Moonlight Hike at Tennessee Valley

Experience the wonder of Tennessee Valley and Muir each under the full moon. We will hike 6-7 miles with some climbing. Meet at the Tennessee Valley parking lot at 7:30PM; hike begins 7:45PM. Take the Stinson Beach/Hwy 1 exit from 101 in Mill Valley. Go one-half mile and turn left on Tennessee Valley Road and then 2 miles to the parking lot.
