About us |
The Pacific Trail Society is a friendly, informal group that hikes trails all over the Bay Area.
Unless the description says otherwise, all hikes are 'show & go' - just show up at the meeting spot if you are interested in joining us! Call or email the hike initiator if you want more information about a hike Bring plenty of water, lunch and/or snacks, and sun/fog/rain/wind protection as appropriate.
In general, most of our hikes are 10-15 miles long and the degree of difficulty for most hikes is "intermediate/moderately strenuous". We do a lot of uphill climbing, so it is important to be in good shape and have good stamina to keep up with the group. If you work out on a regular basis, you should be fine. Few hikes are for beginners.
To get an idea how long a hike will last: We average about 2 1/2 to 3 miles per hour, plus about a half hour break for lunch; however, timing can vary. If you are unsure what the hike will entail, please contact the hike initiator. Generally, heavy rain cancels a hike - though we sometimes hike in light rain . You can call or email the hike initiator if you're unsure whether a hike is cancelled or not. |

Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability |
Please keep in mind that hikes are proposed by the hike initiators, who are ordinary folks who enjoy the outdoors and wish to share their favorite hikes with others. The hike initiators do not necessarily have special leadership or first-aid training, and are not leaders. The hikes are in remote areas and involve the risk of serious bodily injury. Participants assume such risks and release all initiators and other participants from all liability per the terms attached: PTS waiver form . |
