International Eduard Dolezal Award

I am the winner of the Eduard Dolezal Award of year 2000. It is awarded in course of the ISPRS (International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) Congresses every four year since 1996. The Eduard Dolezal Award is provided by the Austrian Society for Surveying and Geoinformation (VG) to representatives of institutions from developing or reform countries who have presented documentary evidence which demonstrates that they have permanently implemented a practical application of photogrammetry, remote sensing or geographic information systems (GIS) in an efficient manner or which documents their outstanding success in a field that supports photogrammetry, remote sensing or geographic information systems. The winners of Eduard Dolezal Award for year 2000 were U. R. Rao of India and Ivan Katzarsky of Bulgaria as senior winners and I, Parviz Tarikhi of Iran as junior winner.

Professor U.R. Rao India

He became Chairman of the Space Commmission and Secretary Department of Space in India in 1984. During a decade when he also enjoyed tenure as Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) he was responsible for accelerating the developmment of rocket technology within India for launching satellites into low Earth, polar and geostationary orbits. Professor Rao also actively promoted the utilization of the vast benefits from space technology for development of India. The most significant contribution of Professor Rao is in evolving a highly innovative integrated management strategy aimed at the development of sustainable management at micro level, to meet the needs of the present as well as the projected needs of the future generation within ecological balance.

Dr Ivan Katzarsky - Bulgaria

He has permanently implemented photogrammetry and remote sensing in many aspects, including production, research and management in Bulgaria. Dr. Katzarsky was responsible for the Pilot Project for an Information System for Cadastre and Land Registration in Bulgaria, supported by the PHARE program of the European Union; the project was completed successfully in 1998. He was also a United Nations Expert in Photogrammetry at the Survey of India and also on the FIG Bureau and an ISPRS Council member from 1988-1992.

I, Parviz Tarikhi - Iran

As the Space Science and Technologyy Specialist at the Iranian Remote Sensing Centre (IRSC) in Tehran, Iran, I worked as the Editor-in-Chief of the IRSC Newsletter since 1992. I have compiled 5 books and 27 articles on remote sensing, mostly in the Persian language. I have also translated 11 English and French textbooks into the Persian languagee. The most significant reason for selecting me as the winner of the Eduard Dolezal Prize a great deal was my achievements in communicating remote sensing technologies and research in this connection in Iran.
