| The Stuart Highway linking Alice Springs with Darwin - not much of a "highway" really but still the lifeblood of the area. It follows the route of the overland telegraph. It was named after John McDouall Stuart who was the first European, (and probably the first man), to cross the country from South to North, and return. |
