Things go smoothly for the couple - at first. Bud works his job during the day, and they both go to Gillies at night. Bud even learns to ride the mechanical bull.
But Sissy wants to ride the bull, and Bud won't let her. That night, Bud hits her and kicks her out of their trailer. Sissy goes to room with an ex-con. The next night, Sissy has a phony affair with the ex-con, and Bud has a real affair with a girl he met at Gilley's.
After a while, Sissy goes back to Bud's trailer to reconcile with Bud, but his jelous girlfriend stands in her way. Meanwhile, Sissy's boyfriend becomes quite abusive, and demands that she leave with him after a bull-ridding contest. The top prize being $5,000, Bud decides to enter, after much prodding and training.
Although many enter the contest, it comes down to Bud, and the ex-con for the $5,000, and ultimatly, Sissy.
Urban Cowboy Is a movie about the trials of life, and how one man can love each other after much pain separates them. It shows terrifically the love-hate relationship many couples go through, and how tragedy can save a marraige.
Accented wonderfully by an all-star soundtrack including songs by Johnny Lee (the #1 hit Looking for Love), the Charlie Daniels Band (The Devil went down to Gerogia), and others, the songs really make the movie, especially in the dance sequences. The cameo's by famous singers only add to the film's country and western theme. (As a side note, this film started the 80's boom in country music appeal. The soundtrack was a multi-platinum seller.)
I just watched this film again, and I had to change my rating of it. Only slightly... I reworked the sound score. I don't belive that I gave such a low score for sound for a film that has such great songs. What whas I thinking?

Plot:
The plot of Urban Cowboy is very simmilar to another of Travolta's hit movies, Saturday Night Fever. Aside from that, it's your typical love story plot: Boy marries girl, boy looses girl, boy must win girl back.
Visual Effects:
Not too much by way of visuals here.
Sound:
GREAT GREAT SONGS. Lookin' For Love? Excellent. Great mechanical bull sounds.
Character Development:
Bud goes from lovable, to sour, to sad; a whole range of emotions, before realizing that he truely loves Sissy.
Sissy, on the other hand, changes in her own ways, too. Not as much as Bud does, though. Sissy is the one to come back to Bud, not the other way around, even tough Bud was the one hurting her.
Atmosphere:
The country music certainly gets you into the film, and so does the general "feel" of Gilley's bar.
Realism:
There are many realationships like Bud and Sissy's out there. Nothing uncommon.
Warren’s Rating:
Is the movie worth your time to watch?
