I remember when you recommended me for this command. You told me how envious you were and how much you hoped you'd find a way to get a starship command again. Well, sir, it looks like you found a way." - Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Williard Decker

There is a mysterious entity heading for the planet Earth and the only Star Ship in range to intercept it is the Enterprise.

Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) has been ordered to take over the helm of the Enterprise, in order to try and stop this menace from reaching the planet.

Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Bones (the late DeForest Kelly), Scotty (James Doohan), Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), Checkov (Walter Koenig) and Sulu (George Takei), the original crew of the Enterprise, are along for the ride in order to help Kirk stop what ever the entity is.

The horrifying truth is that the thing is not alien, but rather something from earth's past...

With the help of a telepath and a cocky commander, can the enterprise stop the entity before it reaches Earth?

Personal Comments

The graphics of Star Trek: The Motion Picture blew me away. They are spectacular in every way. It's like your ona cosmic journey of sorts... (well you are, I guess!).

Aside from the crew looking older, I would like to have seen more of them... some, like Chekov and Sulu have few lines, but then they were never major characters on the show either.

Still, for their first movie, it was very well done.

Plot:
The plot is like an expanded episode of the T.V. show. Still, a great concept and idea.

Visual Effects:
The visuals will blow your mind; Nothing has been done to compare to this film; there is nothing like it.

Sound:
The Star Trek theme which we all remember from the Next Generation got it's birth here, and is a spectacular piece of music.

The rest of the score is just as good, even if it is not as memorable as the first piece.

Character Development:
The only characters to really go through any type of change are Decker and Ilia.

Atmosphere:
Any Trek fan will love this film; others may find it hard to get into as it does start off slowly. The film picks up speed, though, which is always a good thing.

Realism:
