In the year 2274, machines to do everything for everyone. People live to have fun... each day more wonderful than the last. ...That is, untill Lastday. That's when you must die.

Every is given a lifeclock at birth, implanted in their left hand. It's clear when they are born, Green in the teens, red at 23 and then slowly turns black shortly before Lastday. At that time, when people reach thirty years old, they submit to Carousel in hopes of being reborn... except no one ever is.

Logan 5 (Michael York), and his friend Francis 7 (Richard Jordan), are sandmen, "policemen" if you will, responsable for catching "runners." Runners are people who want to escape Carousel, though no one ever does. They may not die by Carousel, but the Sandmen get them.

One day Logan meets a girl named Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter), a potential runner, and is also handed an assignment by the main computer to "find 'sancutary,' at any cost." The only trouble is is that he is reprogrammed from being 25 years olf to 29 years old... and to finish his assignment, he must becomme a runner...

Personal Comments

While not what I expected, I enjoyed Logan's Run. I enjoyed the film and it's amny possible theories about why things are and how they can relate to everyday life.

Logan's Run is a film about a society trying to free itself from the imprisonment it forced upon itself when the world fell apart. Logan 5 - the main protagonist - has to save not only himself, but the rest of his gigantic city. he has to show them that they don't have to die at thirty; that they can live past that age, get old, live.

The undertones in the film are innumerable but are well placed and well timed.

Peter Ustinov plays the Old Man who is the symbol of why runners run... he is what they are triing to acheive. In a way, he is the "sanctuary" the computer wants Logan to find, which he does, all to well.
