Best quote: Speaking to his island guests, specifically Grant & Sattler, pointing at Malcom and Genarro "I don't believe it! You're supposed to come here and defend me against these characters and the only one I've got on my side is the bloodsucking lawyer!" "Thank you for that." - John Hammond and Donald Gennaro

Wealthy entrepreneur John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) has leased an island from the Costa Rican government. Here on this island, He has created "living biological attractions, so astounding, that they'll capture the imagination of the entire planet."

Palaeontologists Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Luara Dern) have been asked by Hammond to come to the island for the weekend and give their endorsement to the "theme park."

This is no ordinary island theme park, however. This is Jurassic Park, a place where science meets imagination. Jurassic Park scientists have taken 65 million year old blood and genetically engineered real live dinosaurs.

The park is supposed to be state of the art and very secure. However, things go wrong. Very wrong. Someone has shut down power to the island, freeing the Dinosuars from their electrified enclosures. This includes the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the deadly Velociraptors.

Will anyone make it off the island alive?

Personal Comments

The first time I saw Jurassic Park, I thought it was, you know, "so cool." I loved the movie. And then I read the book. After reading Chrichton's book, I was horribly dissappointed by the outcome of Spielberg's film. He really butchered the book. I hate to compare the film to the book, But I just can't help but do it. I have to. There was so much chance for a great adaptation of the book, but Speilberg took only the best parts of the book and chopped up the rest. The movie hardly resembles the book, and I think Spielberg took the parts he didn't use from the first book and used them in the sequal, The Lost World.

It doesn't matter if you read the book first or not; either way, you are going to feel robbed. This doesn't mean, however, theat I hate the film. That is far from the truth. I just don't care for it. I get more satisfaction from reading the book than I do from the film.

On the other hand, the film has great special effects. The Dinosaurs look incredibly realistic, and I am still very impressed by the realism of the dinsosaurs. The Tyrannosaurus Rex is an awesome sight to behold, and looks and acts like one may have in the Cretacious when it lived.

But the film, however, has it's downsides. There are many different things that are wrong with the dinosuars, such as being too big or acting in a way that isn't consistent with popular theory. These errors are easily over looked, however, as the awesome sights that are ILM's digital dinosuars don't dissappoint.

Jurassic Park may be a horrible adaptaion of a great book, but the digit effects make up for this... somewhat.

Plot:
Jurassic Park is a horrible adaptation of the popular book by Michael Chrichton. However, the film's story isn't all that bad. There is (and I'm being generous, mind you) a decent plot hidden within the final film that could have been as good as the book, if not better.

Visual Effects:
The digital dinosaurs make the movie. If they don't look real, the audience dosen't belive that they are real and the movie flops. Thank GOD they do look real. Very real.

Rightly so, this film won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. A very deserving award.

Sound:
The score of Jurassic Park is another piece of the movie that was done well. The music, done by the incomprable John Williams, is very memorable, and suits the film to a T.

Character Development:
In the book, the chracters develop very nicely. In this film, they don't develop much at all. Many characters are killed outright before they can even start to develop. Hell, we don't even know much of anything about the lawyer, Gennaro. We nothing of Muldoon other than that he was a game warden in Kenya. Even John Hammond, the man behind the park, is a mystery.

The two main characters, Grant and Sattler, have a slight back story to them, but even that is limited. Back stories add so much depth to film if used in the right way, but they are severly lacking here. A little more story goes a long way.

Atmosphere:
The film is easy to get into and is a great thriller. You don't have to be a dinosaur buff to get into Jurassic Park.

Realism:
Hardcore dinosaur buffs will nit-pick the film to death (and, I'm affraid, I am one of those), but still, the dinosaurs look incredibly realistic.
