The Chicago & Eatern Illinois RR scheduled the "Dixie Limited", "Dixie Flyer", "Dixie Mail", "Dixieland", "Dixiana", and the "Dixie Flagler". These trains were primarily Chicago -Florida service. The C&EI ran its main line from Chicago to Evanville, Indiana with a second main from Chicago to St. Louis with the "Silent Knight" and "The Zipper" running on this line.
"The Dixiana" ran every third day from Chicago to Miami and Tampa. I understand that this train ran only about three times because of the cut back due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The train carried new streamlined equipment and offered fine service such as reserved coaches, a diner serving all meals, sleepers to Miami, and Sarasota, a observation lounge car to Miami.
"The Dixieland" an all-Pullman train from Chicago to Miami with a diner to Miami.
The "Dixie Limited" ran with coaches, sleepers, and dining cars from Chicago to Atlanta, New Orleans.
The "Dixie Flyer" ran from Chicago to Jacksonville with coaches, dining car Evansville to Macon, sleepers to Florida.
"Dixie Mail" had coaches to Nashville, Montgomery, and Montgomery to New Orleans, a sleeper from Chicago to Nashville, a Parlor Car and Cafe-Lounge car from Chicago to Evansville.
"The Dixie Flagler" ran every third day as an all-coach train from Chicago to Miami. Coaches, dining car, and observation-lounge car were the equipment.
"The Zipper" ran Chicago to St. Louis with coaches, cafe-lounge car, and Parlor Car.
"The Silent Knight" ran at night with coaches Chicago to St. Louis and Thebes, a cafe-lounge car from Chicago to St. Louis, with sleepers from Chicago to St. Louis and Thebes.
Of course there also were number trains that ran over the system.
