Attack

Now the trail flattens out into a nice broad plain. The trail, which used to be dirt, is now a rough gravel and stone. Unlike the soft cobbles of old towns you've walked through this is hard on your feet. The rocks feel more like their jagged edges have been broken off of large boulders.

This could be possible too. You can see the bulky figures of humongous rocks laying strewn across the short grass. True there are smaller stones as well, but the massive size of these is astounding. You walk past a few and turn your head to watch a pheasent flee from something. When you look back one of the boulders is creeping up on you. Wait! It's not a boulder, it's a winged cat with fangs bared and eyes gleaming...

Backing away you start to breath heavily. You could have sworn that was a boulder, not a stalking cat! It glares at you, more malice than hunger. Suddenly you hit something solid against your back. There was nothing there before... but this solid thing is moving! Turning swiftly you see a large golem-like creature staring at you with unseeing eyes. It's whole structure is stone and gravel, like a rough statue. Just then you realize your ironic predicament, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Which would be the best way to die? Eaten and mauled, or crushed and trampled? There's still a little opening to your right... rushing off that way you forget the one main thing- never turn your back to the enemy. A rip of skin and a flash of white hot pain tells you that your back has been shredded by the stone-cat. You begin to feel hard rock pour over you, is it raining gravel or some work of the golem? Suffocating...

When you awake you are buryed under dust and gravel, not terribly bad, but painful. And you're alive, thankfully. Your try to stand but the stiffness and pain in your back makes you recall the gashes that must be back there. Waiting a bit you fall back asleep. This time you awake to night. Standing is a bit easier, and you manage to make it out of the rubble. There's not a trace of the cat, and there are dents where the stone creature stood. All the boulders have shifted position. Hoping that you'll heal you walk on.
