Series Description

This is a story of a girl who gathered the seven seishi of Suzaku.  She gained omnipotent power and made every wish come true.  The story itself is an incantation.  Whoevery finishes reading it will receive this power.  As soon as the page is turned the story will become the truth and begin...

Yuuki Miaka is the very girl that will come across this magical story.  Upon visiting The National Library of Tokyo with her best friend Hongo Yui, she sees an illusion of a magical bird (resembles a peacock).  She follows it to a Confidential Area of the library.  Upon entering she comes across a mysterious book called "Shijintenchisho" or The Unniverse of the Four Gods.  She and Yui begin reading the book and after reading the very first page they are transported to ancient China where the story takes place.  There they meet a couple of slave traders who tried to kidnap them, but low and behold a mysterious (and very handsome) stranger comes to their rescue (his name is Tomahome).  After rescueing them he askes them to pay him back with money.  While Miaka was too preoccupied digging through her pocket for money, she does not realize that her friend Yui is dissapearing.  Yui is transported back to the National Library, while Miaka is stuck somewhere in Ancient China.  Miaka (knowing nobody there) proceeds to look for Tomahome in order to rescue Yui, whom she thinks was kidnapped or lost.  She finally finds Tomahome (when he comes to her rescue again, by beating up some gansters) and demands that he help her find Yui.  Just then the Emperor of Ancient China, Hotohori passes by.  Thinking that he is very powerful and rich Miaka runs up to him and askes him for help.  Just then she begins to emit a red light while transporting back to the national Library.  There she sees Yui still reading the book.  She calls out but Yui does not hear her. Her transportation is not complete and she ends up in Ancient China again.  Hotohori thinks that she has some sort of power and brings her to his empire.  He the states that she is the "Suzaku no Miko" or the Priestess of Suzaku.
The Priestess of Suzaku is in fact a legend that a girl from another land will come to China and collect the seven Warriors of Suzaku.  She then can have three of her wishes come true, saving the empire in the process.
Since Tomahome and Hotohori are two of the Seven mystical warriors Miaka must find the last five in order to return to her mom, brother and her best friend Yui.  But as we all know her adventures are not easy and many (And I do mean many) things come in her way...

My Opinion

Well, Let's see.  In my opinion Fushigi Yuugi is a good Anime series.  It would have been excellent because the animation is incredible and it has a cool cast of character, plus the music is super, but the plot and tone is just so...well so serious.  Don't get me wrong Fushigi Yuugi does contain a good bit of comedy and histerics but overall it contains too many mature situations, such as rape, death, and complex relationships between characters.  The death of Tomahome's family (Esp. Yuiren) really choked me up!!  I couldn't stop crying *sniff sniff*.  Now anytime I wanna have a good sob I just rewind it to that episode.  Poor Tomahome!!  Alright alright I'll get on with it.  The complex relationship between Tomahome and Miaka (you know how their relationship is on and off and on and off...) got to be annoying to me pretty quickly.  And oh how I wish Miaka and Yui would just make up already.  They used to be such good friends *sniff*.  OK enough of that.  Altogether Fushigi Yuugi is alright, but I don't think kids should watch it because of it's mature content, plus they might get bored of it.  It's not like Pokemon with different adventures in every episode.  Fushigi Yuugi is more of an ongoing thing.  But despite it's flaws I still can't get enough of Fushigi Yuugi (Tasuki and Chichiri are just too awesome)!!.
