An Elf's Tale

We are the seven wizards who rule the world
I am the head wizard, my name is Earl
We set the path for every life form
But there were some who broke away from the norm

They were annoying for a no good cause
Causing no good ruckus, babbling on their no good jaws
Yet, there was one quite odd little man
He was an elf who wouldn't do what we'd command

His name was Dorkus, he was a shoemaker
He was a stud, a real heartbreaker
One would think he'd be thankful that we made him the way he is
But he wasn't satisfied so he complained to me and the other six

He didn't want to make shoes
Dorkus wanted to make music, a pat we would not choose
Because he was just a lousy little insignificant elf
We put him down and placed his complaint on the shelf

He cried that night but we had no remorse
And we told him he could not do what he wants, of course
He complained more and more and he wouldn't quit
So we made fun of him more and said he wouldn't fit

Into a musicians' bigger clothing, that is
Because he's so short, it's none of biz
It would never happen; we've decided his life once and for all
He shouldn't complain, he's as sharp as a ball

We like everyone else because they help discourage him
Bet he seems to be unharmed, what the smell is wrong with him?
His faith to be different is a thick brick wall
It can't seem to be broken, it's too bad he's not tall

If he were, then he would be a music maker
But he's short, he should consider a career as a midget wrestler
Plus, his path in life has been set, it should be followed
He can't succeed, he should quit now and drop the load

But one night, he brought out his whimsical flute
He played for us wizards, it was kind of cute
We listened for a while to his sweet serenade
We scratched our aged heads and denied his dreams to fade

We granted his wish and now he's a musician
He proved us all wrong with his restless ambition
But we asked, "How did u get so darn good?"
Dorkus answered, "Hard work, plus I sacrificed my food

I traded my week's worth of dinner so I can get my instrument
Even though I was busy with shoes, I made time and oh how it went
I practiced day and night, I wouldn't throw away my dream
Because this is the only thing that's worth anything to me

I thank you kind wizards, I bid you adieu."
Before he left, he played us a few
Sweet, beautiful, breath-taking songs
We should have had more faith, he proved us all wrong

So ends our tale of the true starving musician
It couldn't be told with any better diction
Remember to have faith, work hard, it's all up to you
Just do what you have to do for your dreams to come true.
