Spears' opening statement: Hi, everybody! This is Britney! And I'm really excited I can talk to you guys about my tour!
Q: TEll us what we can expect from the tour--the staging, the set pieces, what everthing's going to look like.
A: Yes, it's going to be fun. LIke the first part of the show, I hit them strong, really really hard. And then I come out and I have, like, you know, the sets are really amazing. Like I have one bedroom set. And it's just, like, really cartoonish looking. And then I come back and start doing the harder songs. And it just has, like, the show flows really, really well.
Q: A lot of critics commented on how bold a move it was for you to remake a classic like "Satisfaction." How did that come about?
A: Well, really, I really liked the song a lot when I was younger. And I wanted to do, you know, a remake of the song so I'd have the opportunity to work with Rodney Jenkins, because I'd talked to him at a party once. And I was like, well, we should do something together.
Q: I've heard that you've entertained the idea of a career as a lawyer. Can you tell me about that?
A: Well, when I was younger, we had Career Day one day. And I didn't want to come to school and say, 'I want to be a pop star, or a singer, or whatever.' And so, yes, I wanted to be an entertainment lawyer. But that's not something I want to do now.
Q: Could you talk a little bit about any back-to-school memories that you have?
A: Back-to-school memories?
Q: Yes.
A: Really, I remember when I was like in the second grade or third grade, my favorite thing was to, to -- I know this sounds really retarded -- but to go to Wal-Mart and get all my supplies. That was so much fun when I was younger.
Q: I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about what was the most exciting thing that you got to do when you were in Hawaii (filming a Fox television special).
A: Probably the parasailing and swimming with the dolphins, because they say that dolphins have a certain kind of vibrations. So even people who are, you know, mentally ill or something like that, they go there. And it's kind of very therapeutic for them. So when I went there, it was really -- it was a nice experience.
Q: This spring you also got to be part of another hit single, the Eminem song. Do you take that as a crude, good-spirited joke, or is it really a dis?
A: I think it's cool. You know, it's just flattering when someone will, you know, write about you in their song.
Q: What are your biggest pressures, you biggest day-to-day headaches, and how do you deal with them?
A: Well, really, I mean, everyday is different for me. Like today, I'm focusing on trying to sing and dance at the same time. And yes, I mean really -- I mean, it varies for me. You know, and I mean, one week I'll be worried about an award show coming up. And the next week, and now, you know, right now I'm really -- it's really hectic and crazy because I have a video coming up in between tour rehearsals. But the ways I relax is just, you know, finding time for yourself and, you know, getting massages, spending time with my mom, you know, stuff like that.
Q: I was wondering if you could comment on what it's like to be a role model for so many teen-agers.
A: Well, really, I don't really -- I try to think of myself not as a role model. You know what I mean?
Q: What did it feel like the first time a fan recognized you on the street?
A: The first time somebody recognized me on the street was probably when me and my friend Felicia, we were walking in New York. And we were by Times Square. And you know how there's, like, a lot of fans by there because of 'TRL' (MTV's "Total Request Live")? And a girl noticed me. And I was like, 'Oh goodness. Someone noticed me.' I felt so cool. You know, it's like, 'Oh my god, they recognized me.' And now I'm just like, 'Oh, I'm over it.'
Q: How do you feel about your shorter haircut?
A: Actually, a lot of people thought it was really cute and sassy. But I just wanted it shorter because, I don't know, it's summertime. And it's just a lot easier. And you can always put extensions in if you want to change it up. But this is more me.
Q: What's the hardest thing for you to get used to (in) being famous?
A: You can't really just chill out. But just lately, you know, I've been having to deal with the realization that you're famous and you can't -- there's no turning back. You know what I mean? There's no turning back at all.
Q: I was wondering if you're thinking in terms of longetivity, and what sort of things you're doing to ensure that you're still going to be vital in the years to come.
A: You know, there's really nothing, I don't think, that you can do to ensure that. You know what I mean?
