Letter written about George Stephan

Shelbyville, Indiana

March 1, 1932

I haven't any later record than of my Great Grand Father (my father's father's father). He lived to be 107 years old, lived in Germany, Bischofine in State of Baden. His name was George Stephan. He plowed his field the day before death. I remember father saying his Grand - father came from France.

I think it would be hard to trace relationship that far back. Grand-father, John George Stephan was born in Ling, Germany September 15, 1797.

Aunt Kate Strater, my mother's sister thought she would like to trace the relationship when she and her second husband visited Germany. My Grand - father used to run a hotel where my father was born, Freistadt.

Aunt Kate saw the hotel, which was still being run, and ate at same table the Stephan family used. This was perhaps 20 - 25 years ago. After she got home she learned the hotel had burned.

Aunt Kate thought perhaps she could find some wealth due the estate.

Authorship of this letter is unknown but most likely it was by Will F. Stephan
