Welcome to my life!

Oumar

I was a born in Mauritania where I spent my whole childhood in an atmosphere of intense Mauritanian cultural influence, which I think determined a large part of my personality today. During my first year at school at the age of eight, I studied Arabic which was imposed by the educational system. I attended high school learning both French and Arabic in College Ksar. At the age of eleven, my father, whom I was particularly attached to, died. Four years later, during the Ramadan month of 1989, one of the most tragic events in the history of the country took place: deadly attacks against black Africans living in Mauritania ( mainly Senegalese) while the same things occured in Senegal in response to a wave of violence that got out of control with desasterous consequences: today more than 55,000 refugees live in the Senegal River Valley in unhealthy conditions. My own family (originally from Senegal) almost was massacred before moving back to Dakar, Senegal, where I finished my high school studies, astonishingly retarded by all these troublesome events. It is also in Dakar that I found out how immense was my interest in English, interest that made me involve myself in any kind of english related academic activities. One thing leading to another, I ended up in the U.S. I am currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in computer science. You can view my resume by clicking on the link.
