Celebración
del 20avo. Aniversario de MTV
MTV

VJ
de MTV: "'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' changed my life.."
Cyndi:
"I liked to dress up like Shakespiare..."
VJ
de MTV: "good buddies
you too..."
Cyndi:
"yeah, because, yo know I love the english language, I can't get enough of
it..."

Lauper
"Happy
Birthday" a MTV.

Off-camera, veteran '80s popster Boy George, who brought new wave icon
Cyndi Lauper as his date, spent some time setting the record straight about
Madonna, whom he had recently dogged in the press. "I honestly don't know her well enough to do an assassination of her character," quipped the
Boy, who donned a larger-than-life purple hat and Banana Republic blazer on which were sewn dozens of colored buttons. "But she strikes me as a bit like a futile queen. You know, a little pleased with herself. But I admire her as well, in my own twisted way. I kind of love her and hate her."

THEY'RE
SO UNUSUAL: Eighties
staples Cyndi Lauper and Boy George attended MTV's 20th
anniversary party in New York City.

His date, Cyndi Lauper -- who has reached a sort of icon status among
Gen-Xers -- sat quietly at the table in an amazing blush-colored
Vivienne Westwood dress, as reporters approached her as respectfully as if she were a museum statue. Who knew that when the catchy yet (with all due respect) disposable pop anthem
"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" came out in the '80s that Lauper would have such a long shelf life? Perhaps the secret lies in her attitude:
"I wanted always if I could to become a great artist. That just stuck on me. That maybe someday I could do something that was so great that nobody could deny that it was. And I still strive for that."
With Lauper and Boy George
on hand, the '80s were pretty well-represented. But it's pretty hard to sum up 20 years of MTV without
Duran Duran, who were no-shows. And where was Madonna? (After all, she did have the night off -- what better way to spend it?)
Michael Jackson? Eurythmics? And for that matter, where was 'N
Sync? Britney? Christina?
Instead, this attention span-deprived group had to settle for second best. And sometimes third.

MTV,
Everybody Talks About Pop Music!
Boy
George: "...suddenly,
when, you know, you saw Boy George, Cyndi Lauper or
Madonna, It was like I'm not alone,
at that respect [MTV] was very important..."

Como
Boy George,

Cyndi: "I was kind
of shocked that I could do something that actually would have an effect
on people,
but this media, this MTV was a large part... It's great to stablish who you are and what you
are saying and
what you goona look like because individualism is really important."
A continuación, algunos comentarios hechos por varios artistas:
Sisqo:
"My first memory of pop on
MTV was Cyndi Lauper singing 'Girls Just
Wanna Have Fun'..."
Jordan Knight: "Cyndi Lauper..., she was so quirky
and crazy..."
Pink: "As soon as I saw Cyndi Lauper I
was like: 'that's my girl'
She totally inspired me. I was like 'she rocks'..."
Simon LeBond:
"She 's a real feminist, in the best sense of the
word. She was one of the first to make that kind of statement."
Christina Aguilera:
"She was another female that was outhere doing crazy things not
afraid of dressing how she ever
wanted to and get out on the streets... a female pop artist who've done
it before us, kind of open the door for us
who wanted to follow and do these things as well."
"Hungry
Fun",
hasta el "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" del bochornoso
estilo de Culture Club. (MTV.com)
