The Harvest Disaster

Chapter Two

It was the last day of harvest.  After today, the celebration would begin!  Some ponies were in the fields and meadows, some (including Magic Star and her friends) were in the apple orchard.
They all frolicked around, inspecting which apples were ripe, which were rotten, and which could still be saved for apple pie.  They were all giddy with joy, because some festivities would take place tonight.
They spent the whole afternoon in the orchard, and by the time they were resting, it was well into the evening.
"I would almost rather be working in the fields," complained the lavender pegasus pony.  "I bet their work is already done…they’re probably partying right now."
"Oh Sprinkles, dawling, it’s really not that bad," replied Cherry Treat.  "We’re almost done."
Just then an orange pony with yellow hair and freckles galloped towards the resting group.
"We have just one more section to do!  We’re almost done," she said.
"I don’t wanna do anymore work, Applejack!"  complained Gusty.  "I’ve been working all day!"
"Oh come on Gusty, it’s only one more section," said Magic Star.
"All right, fine!" said the white unicorn.
"That’s the spirit!" Tootie Tails encouraged.
A low rumble of thunder came from the heavy gray clouds.  It was humid and muggy, and now the ponies would be wet.
"Oh NO!" yelled Bubbles.  "My hair was perfect this morning."
A sheet of rain came pelting down.  Coming down so hard, the rain stung the ponies’ face and backs.
"Now what?" said Cherry Treat, shaking the water out of her hot pink mane.  "I can barely see a foot infront of me, the rain is so thick!"
"What was that?" said Magic Star in a startled voice.
"I don’t hear anything," said Gusty.  A loud crack came from behind them.
"There it is again!" said Magic Star, even more started than before.
"What is that?" asked Volcano as more cracking noises surrounded them.  The raindrops were clouding the ponies’ vision and they were all getting spooked.  They huddled closer and closer together.
"Something grabbed my leg!" cried out Steamer.
Bubbles screamed as a huge dog-like face with gnashing teeth, gray fur, and blood red eyes appeared in front of her.
"RUN!!!!!!!!"
The earth ponies bolted, the unicorns winked away, and the pegs flew like the wind into the gray sky.  The earth ponies, being at a disadvantage, scattered everywhere.  Screams and terrible laugh-like howls were heard all around them.  Magic Star ran blindly into the woods, she couldn’t see anything, but she heard the terrible, tear wrenching screams of her friends.  She turned around and made up her mind, she was going to save them.  She ran, head down, so she would head-butt anything in her way.  She ran as fast as she could until she was out in the orchard again, the screams continued.
She slammed into something.  The something screached and howled.  She was terrified.  She stood in the center of the open space, unable to see.  She was a sitting duck.  She looked around frantically but she could see nothing.  Peering in the thick rain, she could see something moving towards her.  She was too horrified to move.  It came closer and closer and closer.  She soon found out what it was…the wolves.
There were about five of them, stalking, slinking around her, circling her.  One ran for her and slammed her down.  They tossed her in the air and bit her legs.  She screamed as loud as she could.  She kicked frantically, crazily, horrified.  The biggest wolf put his teeth around her neck and was squeezing it, breaking the skin.  Her eyes clouded over, developing a film on them, she couldn’t see.  She just kept kicking and screaming.  She was flailing around, but it was no use, the wolf had her.
