Director: Terry Windell Written by: Ronald D. Moore
"We're not individuals. We're not Borg. We're nothing." (The triad.)
Plot: Seven comes face to face with 3 ex-drones from her original unimatrix when they come to her to ask her to help them find out what happened when they crashed on a planet 8 years ago.
Guest cast:
Vaughn Armstrong ("Two of Nine/ Lanca.") Bertila Damas ("Three of Nine/ Marika Wilcara") Tim Kelleher ("Four of Nine/ Pachan.") Jonathan Breck ("Dying Borg") Scarlett Pommers ("Naomi Wildman")
Some trivia:
* Vaughn Armstrong also played the Klingon Captain Korris in TNG's "Heart of Glory", Gul Danar in DS9's "Past Prologue", the Cardassian Seskal in DS9's "When it Rains..." and "The Dogs of War", and the Romulan Telek R'Mor in VOYAGER's "Eye of the Needle". * Bertila Damas played Sakonna in DS9' "The Maquis, parts 1 and 2". * Tim Kelleher played Lt.Gaines in TNG's "All Good Things...".
Memorable scenes:
* The scene with the drones around the campfire where they begin to remember their lives before assimilation and begin to regain their individuality. * The scene where Janeway is telling off Tom and Harry -- it's reminiscent of scenes seen in earlier seasons. * The scene in Astrometrics where Chakotay and Seven discuss the triads' future. * The scene where the Doctor and Seven are discussing Seven's motivations behind her decisions to free the triad from their telepathic link.
Some quotes:
"I do not exist. I am only part of the greater whole." (Seven)
"A month as an individual or a lifetime as a drone. Which option would you choose?" (Chakotay)
"Survival is insufficient". (Seven)
"Are you doing what's right for those 3 people, or are you trying to alleviate the guilt you feel over what happened 8 years ago?" (The Doctor)
My comments: I quite enjoyed this episode and felt that there was some great acting not only from Jeri Ryan, but also from the guest cast. There were some very good scenes in this episode, especially the one between Seven and the Doctor in Sickbay. Overall, a pretty good episode.
