"Once Upon a Time"
Production no. 899

Director: John Kretchmer.
Written by: Michael Taylor.

"Ion storms,crash-landings, alien attacks...A starship's no place for a child."
(Neelix)

Plot:  Whilst the crew search for Paris, Tuvok and Ensign Wildman, who have crashed on a planet, Neelix must look after Naomi Wildman and help her cope without her mother. However, as time passes and the missing crew members are feared dead, Neelix begins to feel that a starship is no place for a young child.

Guest cast:

Justin Louis ("Trevis")
Wallace Langham ("Flotter")
Nancy Hower ("Ensign Samantha Wildman")
Scarlett Pommers ("Naomi Wildman")

Some trivia:

This episode sees the debut of Scarlett Pommers ("Naomi"), who will be seen in several other episodes later on in seasons 5 and 6.
Wallace Langham is better known as Josh from "Veronica's Closet".

Memorable scenes:

Any scenes with Flotter and Trevis -- it's nice to see what fairytales are like in the 24th Century.
Scene between Neelix and Janeway in Janeway's readyroom, where they're discussing whether or not to tell Naomi the truth.
The scene where Tuvok is comforting Samantha Wildman is quite a nice scene.

Some quotes:

"Did you envision a more heroic death?"
"I didn't envision dying at all."
"In accepting the inevitable, one finds peace."
"If that's another Vulcan saying, Tuvok, I'll stick with 'Live long and prosper'."
(Tuvok and Paris)

My comments:  I felt that this episode was quite a sweet one and felt that it was about time that we found out how children entertain themselves in the 24th Century. I also felt that there was some great acting from Ethan Phillips and that this has been his best episode since season 4's "Mortal Coil." An enjoyable episode.
